CHAPTER 14

- Dese's POV

"Why does the Domi Society need kids this year?" I ask as we sit around the table eating burritos. Man, Sap can cook, impressive for someone who lives in a forest.

"Maybe they're realized they are stuck-up miserable people with no sense of humour." chips in Zeki.

"Or maybe they've realized there are many children that are out-casted by the Norms.' supplies Sap

"But why would they only want us to find three, not as many as possible?" this is so strange of the Society.

"Yeah and they've given us clues like they know these children exist but haven't sent the Protection out to get them, which would have been much quicker and prevented all the pain and hardship these children are facing. I bet they're probably living like the kid that we found today." realization hitting Zeki.

"Maybe the Society, can't make sense of the riddles, so they thought we were up to the job be.....so how is the food guys?" Sap suddenly changes topic in the same sentence.

We all look at him and freeze. He's heard something. Sap shakes his head and mouths answer the question.

"It's fine, thanks mate." Zeki answers, catching on.

"We' re here, you don't need to stand there." Sap says as he gets up and opens the dining room door peering at the staircase. Zeki and me relax.

Oh he heard her, no wonder he changed topics, he didn't want to scare the child, clever. His hearing is creepy at times. I mean he can practically hear everything going on and know what you are doing if your in a 3 mile radius. Actually that would be probably quite annoying if you could hear every little thing, that's why he lives in the forest. Opps and we make fun of him all the time.  But don't they say a rain forest is just as loud as living in the city? Hmm...I should ask him one day.

The girl timidly tip toes to the door, her hair is damp and her clothes I had put out for her earlier hang off her. She has rolled up the sleeves of the grey plain shirt, as well as the brown trousers that she trips up on as she enters further into the room. The dark smudges across her face as well as the rotten smells have thankfully dispitated from her. She has blonde hair and brown eyes and looks about eleven but her eyes look so much older filled with sadness and pain. Why so sad?

I don't bother putting out an image this time, I'd have to remember to keep it up all time for the next three months. Besides she would find out as soon as the electricity is on and powers are switched off that I'm not the ten year old boy but in fact a twenty one year old woman, it would just get exceptionally messy.

"Hey it's OK, come in. We're not going to hurt you" I stand up, pulling her another red cushioned chair at the dinning table.

"Do want something to eat?" Zeki asks as he stands up as well.

Dude she's been living in a cardboard box, doubt there's little chance she would have eaten a hearty meal. I give him flat look, Stupid question.

He looks back and shrugs his shoulders, I had to ask.

I glance back at the girl and she is shaking her head refusing food but her stomach growls proving her wrong as the burrito Zeki places on the table wafers in her nose.

Why didn't she want to eat, she's so clearly hungry? Maybe she thinks we're gonna poison her. Cautious kid. But then again we made her pass out with a plaster. Guess we're not looking good in her eyes at the moment. The last thing she saw was some boy trying to make her come with us and now she wakes up in a strange pace. She's holding it together well, considering she's had a shower and changed her clothes and decided to come downstairs and face us, the kidnappers and not freaking out. Maybe this happens to her often.
