CHAPTER 9
-Sapien's POV
"Good Morning"
I turn around from the eggs I'm frying.
"Oh hey, good morning Dese" I happily reply. "How are you feeling?"
She slowly edges onto the cushioned, red chair at the wooden table, letting a small groan as she gently lowers herself.
"I'm fine, except the fact everything hurts. Urgh it's bloody nightmare."
I just nod and turn back to the breakfast, I'm cooking for all of us. I smile to myself as there's almost no sign of the battle she went through last night, apart from the soreness. The egg crackle in the frying pan as I fry it, filling the comfortable silence in the black marbled-floored kitchen.
"Erm...about last night, thanks for saving me." she softly voices, eventually.
"It's alright, Jude messed you up." I assure her.
After a brief second I continue " In fact, I don't understand why you did that, there were three of us and you wade in like some big shot." the words rush out automatically.
"I did it to save your lives." she huffs as she, slowly stretches her arms and legs out.
"Oh so you think we're not capable? We've both spent our lives training to defeat these types of people and you think we can't do it? Is that?" I retort as I slam the plates with the eggs and sausages on the table in front of her.
I guess her actions from last night irked me more than I originally thought. Delayed reaction perhaps. I unconvincingly rein in my frustration and irritation.
"But this was different. You couldn't do it, I knew him and I knew how he fought." Dese looks up at me with defiance.
"The only difference is that you used to date him and you thought it was your own revenge. But we're a team Dese, we work together! Who are you, to judge who we can or can't fight? Huh?Tell me because that is lost on me." I sneer, storming in front of table between us.
I don't know where this anger is coming from but it just so intense I can't control it.
"We both were almost evenly matched! We knew each other's skills and techniques. I saved your life, you would have died with one swipe of his sword." she yells.
Anger frosting over her face, that I had the will to question her motives. She is not the leader of this team, no on is, so she needs to get of that high horse of hers and stop making a fool of herself..
"How can you even say that? Did you not see him, he had a bloody three- headed sword! You were close to death, when you got lucky enough to kill him. We thought you were going to die!"
"Well, I didn't, so there!" She immaturely shouts.
"Do you even care, how we managed to bring you out of the clutches of death's grip? We had to drain out powers to give you the energy to heal. Let me tell you one thing Destiny, we are NOT your nurses so next time it will happen I will NOT do that again."
"I didn't ask you to be!" She rallies.
"Oh so you rather us, left you to die. Suicidal much." I sneer.
"Besides I knew what I was doing, anyway. I knew I would beat him." Dese confidently states as she crosses her arms.
Does she even hear what she is saying? I don't know whether it's just her being ridiculously stubborn and proud to admit her mistake.
"Yeah sure, you just bloody jump into a situation without even thinking. You have a brain, you should have used it last night. Everything has consequences and you of all people should know that Destiny. You just wanted to show how bad ass you were by defeating him."
Dese leaps up from her seat, all her soreness forgotten, fury burns in her blue eyes. Her petite figure, tensed up, under her baggy navy top and grey jogging bottoms.
"Can you not appreciate that I had the team's best interests at heart. I SAVED YOUR LIFE!"
"We saved your life! What are you talking about? What interests would that be? It was your stupid feelings of hurt and betrayal of the relationship with Jude and-" my bellow is snapped off by her rude interruption, firing me on more. How dare she?
"You would have died, I would never let anything that goes on outside this mission, interfere with my judgment."
"Well it clearly did. You didn't give Zeki or me a chance, you just stormed in, like some hero." I snap back.
"What part of "I did it to save your lives", do you not understand?" she slowly yells, as we step in closer, both our tempers rise, as neither of us will give in.
"You bet on us, like we were some crappy toys."
"I had good intentions."
"So it's perfectly acceptable to bargain the life of your friends and then put your own life at risk as well."
"It was either both of your lives or mine and I was prepared to take the risk of getting hurt."
"Stop trying to play the martyr Dese, it doesn't suit you. If we are team everyone has equal rights. Yes you did get hurt, nearly on the verge of death but for no reason. We could have worked it out but you just had to prance along and be a complete nutcase." My anger subsides a little and the feelings of despair and hopelessness come rushing back at me, as I remember the state of her last night.
I couldn't do anything to prevent her injuries or help her, until the very end. I just stood there with Zeki not having a clue of what was going on. Not knowing what was happening was so much worse than knowing. At least, if I could see what was going on, I could have reacted. It was nearly too late when I finally did.
"Your such ungrateful little..!!"
She spins out and stomps out, her feet slapping across the cold tiles, too furious to finish her sentence, whilst shoving the stunned looking Zeki out of the doorway.
I release my curled up hands slowly, as Zeki stands their awkwardly, he was bound to hear from the ratchet we had been creating.
She's so reckless, nearly getting herself killed like that. We can fight our own battles, yesterday should have been no different. Dese had to just come along and ruined everything. I don't know what happened last night but I never want to feel that hopeless and so out-of-control in a situation again.
