CHAPTER 17
- Zeki's POV
This is such a crap idea, we could be wandering the desert for weeks and I don't know about them but I want this mission to be over as soon as possible. No offence to any of the kids.
I mean, I guess I don't mind the company of Sap and Dese, they're OK sometimes. I wouldn't obviously admit that to their faces but it's nice to have people, that know you and have that safety net of knowing that they will have your back. That means a lot to me, considering I travel so much and I like having the security that I will see them at least once every year.
The missions aren't too bad it's just so maddening that there is a deadline for them and consequences to pay if we don't meet these deadlines.
In addition we have the added pressure of taking responsibility for three children, therefore it's just better if this mission is over as soon as possible. We can't afford the hazard of putting any of the childrens' lives at risk, we have to bring to them to the governors of the Domi Society alive and well or we will literally be dead meat.
To be honest I don't understand why can't the Domi Society just be grateful that we're doing these missions, instead they have to hurry us up and punish us if we're too slow. People are so impatient nowadays, it's just so terrible, maybe it's an old people thing. These kids have their whole lives before them, it's really not going to matter if we drop them of a day or two later, it's just so unnecessary. These three children better be freaken' awesome to cause us so much stress.
---
"So you got a plan then, are we just gonna wander?" I pull on my long black coat, as we all gather in the kitchen, it's walls surrounded by frosted glass cupboards, some of the flickering candle flames catching the reflection.
"Yeah, I've contacted a friend, who is allowing us to use his helicopter. It will be dark in the Serengeti grassland as it's night time for Africa. The helicopter contains infrared technology so if there is any living thing below they will show up." Sap mentions to us as he takes apart his gun, checking it's slide.
Yes, I knew he would think of something. He's the genius for a reason. But helicopters can't work when the power is on. Massive flaw there matey.
"Wait that means the power won't be on?" Dese asks looking up as she is polishing her sharp sword.
"Well done professor obvious, you want a Nobel prize for that discovery?" I say. Geez I had that thought 3 seconds before she did. To slow Desy.
"Yes but there's no other way and it would be quicker if we fly and see if anything stands out." Sap clarifies as he slides on his jacket. OK he had thought of that before.
"So when are we going? Can't wait to kick some butt." Love pipes up, skipping into the kitchen.
What is she kidding me? Is she the same kid that we took in that dark alley way, who was crying her eyes out and being so vulnerable, now she is buzzing to go out hunting with us in the wild deserts? I bet she's pretty embarrassed about that and if we ever brought it up she would make us combust on the spot. Too bad I like to play with fire, I should mention that to her some time.
"Nope kid, your not coming with us." I stubbornly shake my head, as I lean against the counter top, chomping on a bag of Doritoes.
One more responsibility and we shouldn't have. Last time Dese had responsibility she nearly got herself killed, that's how untrustworthy we are with having others' lives in our hands, well Dese is.
"What, where am I supposed to go?, I'm not a kid, I can fight." Love fiercely argues back. She's 14 so clearly a child, well one that has gone through a lot.
