CHAPTER 7
- Dese's POV
Couldn't he get anything right, he thinks he is the Mr Big Guy...oh I'm perfect nobody can defy me. It is all an image, not a drop of substance. Rage fumes through me, as I storm through the road, the frigid wind, chilling my red cheeks.
Now we have to walk, God knows how many miles, just to get to the city centre and I have this horrible feeling, I am being watched. It's probably too much paranoia; I've been in this job for way too long. I don't want to mention it to the others, this forbidding feeling encase I am wrong.
It's probably some owl, I've always been creeped out by owls. I mean it can turn it's head 360 degrees, that is just spooky. I'm surprised it's not one of the mutations that became to be, after the storm but then it's strange too because they have not been out-competed by the new species either that occurred. Disturbing.
I look up at Sapi's "power face", that's what I call it when he gets his powers, everything he has is more faultless, he could shatter girls' hearts if they didn't know him. He lives in the forest, understands animals, practically eats books and you can't keep a secret from him but I don't think he has ever had a serious relationship.
Now, he is hiding a smile, probably amused by my outburst at Zeki, the pair of them don't take me seriously, enough. I should really chuck Sapi back into the Power-lamp vacuole because I know he despises it. I can't though because he is cooking dinner tonight and he's a good cook. Bummer.
"I was only a couple of streets out. By the way it's called revenge. You seem a bit grumpy Dese, is it your time of the month?"shouts Zeki, trudging behind me. He better get a move on.
"Well you have a weird definition of revenge, when you get affected just as bad as me. I'll give you, your time of the month, coming out of your nose." I threaten. Girls' jokes, it was just so wrong coming out of a guy's mouth.
One guy needs a girlfriend, the other needs to get beaten up by one. Actually both of them deserve a punch.
"Someone's a grumpy monkey" mumbles Sap joining in.
"Grumpy monkey, grumpy monkey, Dese is a grumpy monkey." Sings Zeki. I can feel my face heating up with anger again, lucky it's dark so they can't see me, they would obnoxiously mistaken it as embarrassment but it is anger. Defiantly anger.
"Well at least I'm not a gorilla and a baboon." I shoot back.
A snicker escapes from one of their lips. Now they were laughing at me. I thought it was a very good comeback, thank you very much. They were definitely going to meet my knuckles, curling my fingers, I was trying, oh, so hard to be civilized today but they have provoke me into being violent.
I rise my arm and turn to look at their faces to see, who has made the foolish mistake to laugh at me but they are both frozen and any mockery has left their faces.
It hadn't been them? I instantly drop my arm and let my hand hover over Venom, straining my senses to find out who snickered. I knew something was off and someone was following us. Someone has been listening to us but then we didn't really try to be conspicuous.
Slowing down our pace, we walk more cautiously. I cautiously walk back towards Zeki and Sap so, we can be together to face the impeding danger. There is no point of being hopeful in these circumstances, being in this job you just grow to expect the worse.
Glancing all around I can't see anyone, in the little light that is given out by the street lamps, all I notice is the recent rain glimmering, as is it reflected on the road and the roof tops.
