CHAPTER 15
- Zeki's POV
I shoot up from my bed with a gasp, as the power surges through me. Why the hell does it come on in the middle of the night? Staggering from my bed I walk into a chair, which comes crashing down , man I'm so glad the others can't see me in this state. Ouch! They'd just laugh at me at how clumsy I am, not my style at all, I'm smooth dude.
The power leaves me breathless, every time it comes back on, my reaction gets worse. Actually pretty glad, I'm alone so they can't see how weak I am. It wouldn't be a good sight to see me keeling over with a growing bruise on my foot.
But I think I'm changing, my power is changing. It's like I can see clips of the past as well as the future because every time I come near Dese and Sap I see clips that I know happened ages ago, which is freakin' awesome in away. It's like double the power, past and future.
I should probably ask the others if their powers are improving or maybe it's survival of the fittest. No surprise there because I am the fittest. Hopefully, though I can learn to cope with the power surge.
Since I'm up I may as well go find something to eat. As I clamber down the stairs, I spot the living room light is on. Sap must be awake again stressing over the second riddle, he's been at it for days now or maybe he's missing his natural habitat of trees and only having the company of monkeys.
I'll go to him later, after I raid the kitchen. They say the early bird gets the worm, you can't get much earlier than 2 in the morning.
I open the fridge, the light bathing the dark kitchen in light. Hmm...pasta or pizza? It's too early to make decisions so I'll just eat both.
"Urghh you're having that now?" I feel a tug on the sleeve of my arm as I sit on a stool.
Then I am blasted with images of; a girl screeching, piercing screams of terror as she is chained to a sterile operation table, needles and wires embedded into her skin. The next slide of a middle aged man with greying hair and a blonde haired woman laying on a blood spoltched carpeted floor, massive chucks missing from them, with blood blubbling out of gaping holes. Then the same frightened girl now has a black, long handled gun pointing at her head as she quivers on the spot with wide brown eyes, emitting despair.
I'm shoved back into reality after the images flash briskly in sequence but they were so vivid that I endured every emotion of the person experiencing the events. Pain. Despair. Panic. Sadness. Grief. Loneliness. Fear. Acceptance.
I literally fall of the stool but catch myself before I hit the fall on the marble counter. My breath comes in rapid gasps, in time to my pounding heart beats. Sensory overload.
It was Love. That girl was Love. I saw this girl go through all this torture and poverty. The weight of this knowledge pushes down on me. But we saved her, she can't go through that again we won't let it. However I'm not sure whether it has happened or going to happen.
A sense a protective settles over me as I look down at this fourteen year old girl.
"Dude calm down, it just me." Love is saying, dragging me out of my revelation.
"Er... yeah knew that, just thinking." I say trying to pass of my stumble as deliberate. What has happened to this kid? She's survived so much. Has she ever had a childhood?.
"Wow you can think?" she says smirking at me, humour in her eyes.
It's weird to think that, what I witnessed, is the same kid in front of me trying to crack a joke but she has trudged through a life time of sadness, when the only thing she should have had is happiness and laughter being only fourteen years old.
