Chapter 7- New Year Surprises

It was that time of year again, when people star making resolutions and goals for the upcoming year. It was a time of celebration, a time of family, and a time of reflection of the previous year. For Artemis and Wally New Years marked a special anniversary. It has been almost 1 year since their first kiss in the Watchtower that blossomed into their relationship.

It was early on New Years Eve when Wally called Artemis to inform her of their plans for the evening. Of course, Artemis wanted to know when and where they were going to which Wally just laughed and said, "You'll see." She hung up on him after that, only feeling slightly annoyed that he basically told her nothing other than that they were going someplace. For the most part, she was glad that he was planning something special. At lease he remembered she thought. Unless this had nothing to do with their anniversary. Artemis pushed that thought away, he may be stupid at times but he isn't that stupid.

Throughout the whole afternoon Artemis kept trying to distract herself from wondering what the surprise was. She cursed Wally out in her head for doing this on purpose. She relayed the phone call from the morning in her mind, she could just imagine his smirk when he said "You'll see". He knew it would drive her crazy. She contemplated whether or not to ext him for more details, but she remembered quickly that sometimes he could be almost as stubborn as her.

Artemis knew she was never going to get anything done unless she knew what he was planning. Wally wouldn't tell her anything ad just make her even more frustrated. Her options were to suck it up and attempt to keep distracting herself or go to the cave and see if he told Robin anything. Naturally she picked the latter.

She threw on a thick coat and some boots before heading out the door. She told her mom she was headed to the cave because she left her scarf there, which she did so it wasn't a complete lie. She just failed to tell her about trying to get information out of Robin. Who was she kidding, could she get anything out of the Boy Wonder. He was trained by Batman for goodness sake! However Artemis was not going to stay at home tormenting herself, going to the cave was worth a shot. Plus, she really did need to get back her scarf.

The cave was pretty quiet when she got there. The TV was off and there was no smell of baking cookies. It would be reasonable to say that Connor and Megan were out. It made Artemis rethink her reason for coming here in the first place. What made her think that Robin would be here? She made her way to her room hoping to at least get her scarf, that way the trip wouldn't be a waste.

On her way to her room she bumped into someone causing her to lose her balance. Of course, it was Robin. "Hey Artemis, what are you doing here?" He asked walking with Artemis to her room. "I left my scarf here a couple of days ago. I'm going to need it since Gotham's so cold." He nodded understanding her completely, noticing the double meaning of her words. They walked to her room swiftly where she opened the door, grabbed the scarf on the desk and left. Robin followed Artemis to the kitchen where she pour herself a glass of water.

"So your visit here had nothing to do with Wally's surprise?" She started to choke on her water. Robin let out a small chuckle. She glared at him, her eyes turning into narrow slits. "Great he told you yet refuses to tell me anything." She set her water down and sighed dramatically.

"If he told you that would defeat the purpose of the surprise."

"Can you at least give me a hint?" She asked him. He rubbed his hand with his chin thinking about it for a few seconds. "It doesn't have to be a big hint, any would suffice." She added quickly hoping that would encourage him to tell her anything.

"Fine, a small hint." He said. She grinned, it worked. "You are going to like it." And just like that her smile instantly disappeared. She could have figured it out on her own. At this point in their relationship they already knew what the other person likes and disliked. He wouldn't bring her to a place that she wouldn't enjoy.
