Chapter 9- The Wedding
Artemis and Wally are going to get married tomorrow. But as for tonight they are enjoying their last few days of freedom before they get married.
Artemis and the girls went out for her bachelorettet party. On the other hand, Wally wanted a quiet evening in with the guys.
Let us start with Artemis and her night out.
The music was blasting from speakers in every corner. The flashing lights almost made Artemis laugh and wonder where her friends have taken her. It was a random club Barbra had taken them to in a rush. While Artemis had retired from being a hero, she still kept in touch with her friends on the team and the Justice League and helped on the occasional mission.
She was with Megan, Zatanna, Raquel, Barbra, and nearly every other girl on the team. She was the first put of all of them to get married and they wanted to make it a big celebration. They even forced her to dress up in a green dress that Wally loved on her. She wondered about the point of wearing it, Wally wasn't going to see her in in that night. Nevertheless, Artemis let them have that one. Her big plans for the night was having a few drinks and being a wing-girl for her friends, well the ones that weren't in a relationship already.
When they first arrived at the club, the girls dragged Artemis from her stool to go dance with them. She rolled her eyes but did it anyway. "I knew you wanted to dance." Zatanna said (more like yelled) to Artemis when she say her smiling. She found herself having a good time for something she was dragged to do.
Occasionally a guy would come up to her and ask her to dance. She shook her head and turned them down automatically, she did have a fiancee after all. She told them they should ask her singly friends who are a lot more fun that she was. At first she got a weird look but he still went to talk to Cassie. From what she could observe they were hitting it off well.
Artemis shifted from the dance floor to the bar where she ordered herself a drink. Out of her peripheral vision she sees a guy across the bar get up and sit down next to her. He has blonde hair, and was wearing a white shirt with a skinny red tie. Artemis could see the pack of cigarettes bulging from his back pocket.
"How about I buy you a drink love." He said with a British accent. Artemis shook her head ans held up her drink, half way empty. "I beat you to it." She told him taking a sip casually.
"Then the next one is on me." He was persistent. "What's your name?" Artemis asked him disregarding his previous statement. "John Constantine." She knew this guy looked familiar to her before. Dr. Fate mentioned him once, he was a magican stationed in England mostly. "The magician?" Artemis asked him swirling her drink around in the glass. John looked at her curiously. "And who are you?"
"Let's just say that I am no stranger to doing what it takes to help innocent people. Also next time check to make sure the girl you are planning on buying drinks for, doesn't have an engagement ring." She held up her hand for effect. "Maybe you should my friend Zatanna over there. I sure you guys will have a great, you already have a lot in common." She finished her drink, then patted his back and walked over to Megan.
She was texting someone when Artemis walked over. She suspected she was talking to Connor. Megan looked up and put her phone away when Artemis sat down. "Are you enjoying yourself so far?"
"I helped Zatanna and Cassie meet new guys and I had a few drinks, so not a bad day." She told the Martian cracking a smile.
"I still can't believe you and Wally are getting married tomorrow!" Megan squealed. After telling their families about the engagement, the couple gathered the original team and told them the good news. That was only a few months ago. Artemis found herself in the same state of shock, it felt surreal, but in a good way.
