Broken Arrows
"Do you understand what you have to do?" Nightwing asked the couple in front of him. He had a screen in front of him and was ready to close it any second.
"Don't underestimate us Dick. Its a simple mission." Artemis told him leaning into Wally. Wally wrapped his arms around her and nodded agreeing with his girlfriend. "We have done things more complicated than this and lived to tell the tale."
Nightwing didn't crack a smile. It was clearly evident that he wasn't playing around, this was serious. "Never underestimate the Light." He said in a stern tone. Wally and Artemis knew this, every member on the team did. The Light had no boundaries, no moral code in addition to their dozens of members with great physical and mental abilities.
"Will it make you feel better if we go over it one more time?" Artemis asked looking as her distressed friend. Dick was stressed and he was pushing himself to his limits. He motioned for her to go on.
"We are going to gather information on a multimillion dollar Lexcorp project in Bialyia. We suspect that Queen Bee is involved and she and Luthor are up to something big. Our plan is simple, we get into the Lexcorp lab, get everything we need then get out of there with no hesitation." She looked over to Wally to confirm that she didn't miss anything, "I think that sums it up." Wally told her smiling. He kissed her on the cheek. Nightwing nodded and told them their flight was to take off immediately. They would not be able to fly directly into Bialyia so they are going to be dropped off near the border just as they did on one of their first missions together.
Wally and Artemis got ready which basically meant they put on their costumes. Artemis made sure she had enough arrows in her quiver while Wally made sure he had enough food in his stores. They got onto the small plane that resembled the bioship.
"Are you ready?" Wally asked Artemis slipping his and into hers. She nodded squeezing his hand in comfort. With a smirk he picker her up and sped towards the entrance before she even had any time to comprehend what was going on. When he set her down she had a frown on her face but the twinkle in her eye showed that she didn't mean it. "Come on let's get this thing over with." She said shoving him playfully causing him to roll her eyes.
She took the controls and they flew off into their destiny. The ride there was quiet and short. Both of them were trying to mentally prepare themselves. Queen Bee was not a person you would potentially go after without preparing yourself. Since this was a covert mission the team could not afford to send more than two people otherwise it would be suspicious and more susceptible to the mission being compromised.
Artemis announced that they were close to their drop off point, just a few more miles and they would be close to the border. Wally sat back in his seat and closed his eyes relaxing with the few minutes they had left before the mission takes over.
She was about to turn auto-pilot on when everything started to go downhill. Artemis was no longer in control of the aircraft. It kept jerking to the right waking Wally up. He saw Artemis struggling and asked what was going on. She was about to respond when something hit the side, hard. The plane was sent hurling towards the ground in a matter of seconds. Wally hit his head on the wall and was passed out instantly. Artemis reached towards him to make sure he was ok when she was tossed into the opposite direction when they hit the ground. Her vision was getting spotty. Her body ached all over but she needed to get to Wally. She needed to make sure he was ok. She was fighting to keep her eyes open. Her determination to find Wally got her nowhere. Her body would not cooperate.
Artemis was under a pile of debris. Her body was close to blacking out. Her arms felt weak and useless as she futility tried to lift them off of her to get to the love of her life. She gave up after a few tries, allowing the darkness to succumb her slowly. Just as her eyes were closing she could vaguely see figures dragging Wally. She wanted to do something, anything, but she couldn't. Her head fell on the floor and she blacked out.
