Tails's Foxy Tricks

Sonic's Pov.

I reached the house in a matter of minutes and noticed that Tails and the gang were already back. Did turning into this... thing make me slower? I took Y/N off my back and carried her inside. She was still asleep, even after the ride. She must've been pretty worn out after being captured. Inside was Amy cooking dinner, Tails working on his new machine, and Knuckles just sitting on the couch watching TV. As I walked in, everyone looked at me for a moment before going back to what they were doing, except Tails who was grinning like a child.
"Why don't you take Y/N upstairs Sonic?" Tails suggested. I nodded, carrying Y/N upstairs to the spare room. Coincidentally, it was right next to mine, which made me feel okay, knowing that I could come quickly and help her if needed. I lay her down on the bed and put the blanker over her. She looked so peaceful when asleep.
"Sonic!" I heard Amy call, "Tails needs you!"
"Coming!" I yelled back as quietly as I could so I wouldn't wake up Y/N. I left the room, closing the door behind me. After heading downstairs, Tails called me over to his lab.
"Come on Sonic. Now we can find out what happened to you." Tails said. I nodded, following him into his lab. Tails's machine scanned me and took my blood sample, while Tails was trying to find out why this happened. While waiting for a result though, Tails decided to tease me for a while.
"So Sonic," Tails started, "What do you think of Y/N?"
"She's a nice human. One of the kindest I ever met in fact." I responded.
"And do you think that she's pretty?" Tails asked.
"Yeah, she's- wait a minute!" I just realized what Tails was trying to do.
"You like her, don't you?" Tails chuckled.
"I... I don't know what you're talking about." I replied, blushing.
"Oh come on Sonic." Tails said, "It's written all over your face."
"No it's not." I tried denying it.
"It's clear that you have feelings for her Sonic. I should know. I am your best friend."
"I-I... well... Okay okay! Maybe I do, but don't tell anyone else! Especially Y/N!" I told him.
"Don't worry, your secret's safe with me, but it's only a matter of time before the others find out too. You can't hide love forever." Tails stated.
"It's not love..." I mumbled.
"Sure it is. I mean, you show all the signs, with you being very protective and blushing and-"
"Alright alright, I get it. Now can get back to what's wrong with me?" I tried to change the subject.
"Fine." Tails agreed, "Apparently, Eggman's machine had some kind of dark matter on it and when it activated, the dark matter transferred into you, changing you in a werewolf."
"Don't you mean a werehog? You know, cause I'm a hedgehog." I pointed out.
"Okay then, a werehog. Thankfully, you'll only become like this during the night, and turn back in the day." I sighed in relief, knowing that I wouldn't always look like this.
"But is there a way to turn me back to a hedgehog for good?" I asked,
"There is. The only way to reverse it is..." Tails paused before bursting out laughing.
"What's so funny?" I asked, confused.
"Funny you should ask. It's the exact thing that I talked to you about before."
"Huh?"
"Since dark matter turned you into this, light must conquer the darkness in order to turn you back."
"Which translates to..."
"You, Sonic, must love another and be loved back by them in both of your forms." Tails responded before laughing again.
"What?! Isn't there another way or something?" I asked. He wasn't serious, was he?
"Nope!" Tails answered, "And this is perfect since you already like-"
"Hold on! You want her to be involved in this?!"
"Who else can it be? Amy?" Tails asked. I shook my head to that thought.
"Okay first of all, I'm a hedgehog, she's a human. Second, I turn into a werehog at night, and you think that she can like me for that?" I questioned.
"You never know unless you try." Tails said, closing his computer, "Well, I'm going to bed. 'Night Sonic."
"Good night Tails..." I mumbled, before heading back upstairs to my room. I, quickly, looked in Y/N's room to see her sound asleep. I sighed, closing her door and heading into my room. She couldn't possibly like me when I'm a werehog, or even a hedgehog. We're two entirely different species, yet I can feel something towards her. Does that mean that she can feel the same for me? She probably only thinks of us as friends and nothing more, but Tails said that this was the only way to turn me back to normal for good. I guess that means that I'll have to play Romeo in this story. After collecting my thoughts, I drifted off to sleep, wondering how to deal with this.

I feel like I'm gonna turn this story into a "Beauty and the Beast" sort of thing, which wasn't my intent at all in the beginning XD, but I'm sure that I can work with it and make it good. :D
