Y/N's Pov.

"Say what?" I asked, making sure that I heard what Tails said correctly.
"Sonic might think that your his mate, or find you to be a potential mate for him." Tails repeated. I felt my eyes grow wide and my face erupt in a massive red blush.
"What?!" I shouted as quietly as I could to not wake Sonic.
"It's just a theory Y/N!" Tails tried to reassure me, "I'm not 100% sure if it's true though."
"It better not be true or else-"
"I don't see what the big deal is, Y/N. I mean, you do like Sonic right?" Tails grinned, chuckling.
"What?! Don't give me 'that' look Tails! This is no time for jokes!" I whisper-yelled.
"Ok, ok. You want me to come pick you up in the X-Tornado?"
"I guess so." I looked towards Sonic, still blushing from Tails's theory.
"Alright, but you'll have to get to a clearing, so that I can find your coordinates. I can't find your location when you're in a cave."
"And how do you propose that I get out of this?" I reminded him about Sonic's position.
"Sorry, but I can't help you get out of that situation," Tails said, trying to contain his laugher, "Try to figure something out. As soon as I get your coordinates, I will fly over." With that said, my communicator turned off. I sighed, turning off the communicator. How did Tails expect me to get out of this position?! It didn't seem too hard, but I was still afraid a little of what would happen if Sonic woke up. I gently put my right hand under his head, while keeping my left on top. Sonic stirred, but didn't wake. I carefully picked up his head and lay it on the cave floor. With that done, I slowly stood up and tiptoed to the outside of the cave. I almost freaked out when I stepped on a rock, but I covered my mouth to prevent me from making any noise. When I reached the cave's entrance, I sighed in relief and looked back to where Sonic was sleeping. I didn't really want to leave Sonic all alone in here, but I knew that he would turn back in the morning, and we could pick him up then. I ran out towards the clearing where Sonic had stopped to look around earlier. When I got there, I called Tails again to make sure if he had my location. As soon as Tails picked up, I asked.
"Hey Tails, do you know my-" I stopped when I heard growling behind me. Did Sonic know that I left?
"Y/N, behind you!" Tails called out, before his connection cut off. I turned my head around, expecting to see Sonic, but I was wrong. Dead wrong... Behind me stood a huge black bear, and from the looks of it, it looked hungry. It stood up on its hind legs and roared. I took a step back, only to trip on a stick. I fell down, more afraid than ever. The bear raised its paw up, ready to strike it down at any moment. I was so scared that I did the only thing I could do at the moment.
"HELP!!!" I yelled as the bear roared again, bringing its paw down on me. Right before it hit me, I heard another roar, but not from the bear. The bear's attack never came. I looked to the location of the other roar and saw Sonic come out of the bushes and bit the bear's paw. The bear got down on all fours again and roared at Sonic. Sonic roared back and stood in front of me, as if he was trying to protect me. I was worried for Sonic, since the bear was much bigger the him. He leaped at the bear, using his claws to scratch at the bear. After enduring the hit, the bear did the same to Sonic with its claws, which were larger and sharper. Sonic fell to the ground and jumped back up, trying to stay strong. Sonic had much larger gashes than the bear did, which made me want to call out to him to stop fighting before things got worse, but I was too scared to say anything. The bear, then, proceeded to bite Sonic with its huge fangs, but Sonic jumped over the bear and onto its back before sinking his fangs into the bear's neck. The bear stood up on its hind legs trying to shake Sonic off, but Sonic had a tight grip on it. The bear, eventually, had enough rolled over onto its back, almost crushing Sonic, but Sonic let go and was sent flying into a tree. I gasped in fear for Sonic's well being and ran over to him as he tried to get up. The bear was just about ready to attack again, but stopped and ran off into the forest as if afraid. Suddenly, the X-Tornado swooped into the clearing, making a landing. I saw Tails get out of the plane and run over towards me.
"Y/N, are you oka- oh no, Sonic!" he stopped himself when he saw Sonic's state. Sonic, still trying to stay strong, stepped in front of me once more, as if trying to protect me from Tails.
"No Sonic, don't hurt Tails! He's your friend, remember?" I tried to calm Sonic down. I felt like Sonic listened to me this time, because he looked towards me, as if trying to make out of what I said. A moment later, Sonic fell on the ground, unconscious. I kneeled by him, trying to wake him up, but to no avail. I got really concerned for Sonic's safety and looked over to Tails.
"Tails, we-"
"Say no more Y/N!" Tails cut me off, "Let's get Sonic onto the X-Tornado. We can take care of him back at the house." I nodded, helping Tails carry Sonic onto the back of his airplane. As soon as we put him in, Tails and I jumped into our seats. Tails started the engine as quickly as he could, while I was holding on the my chest, trying to calm my rapidly beating heart after what just happened. I looked over to where Sonic was, praying that he'll be okay. After all, he just saved my life.
