-Chester-

My cell phone rang loudly on a Saturday morning. I was getting a few hours of sleep just because of sketching anything that popped out of my mind. I had a few of them done, and I’m planning to put it into an exhibit in the nearby art gallery.

I harshly grabbed my phone and forcefully pressed the answer key.

“Yeah. What do you want?” I grunted. I knew it was Naomi. She’s the only person who could dare to call me at this time of the morning.

“We’re going now? Are you ready?”

“I forgot to ask Mom.” I lied.

I asked Mom about the trip when we ate dinner. She didn’t say anything, and just smiled to herself. I found it mysterious, but I shook the thought out of my mind.

“Look out to your window, Chester.” she said.

“I’m tired. Can’t you just come over here?” I answered sleepily.

“No. Just look out the window.” she ordered.

I heard her voice somewhere near our house. I decided to look out the window, and there she was, waving at me with a big smile on her face while holding the phone on her ear. Andrew and Reese were there, together with a girl and boy that were strangers to my sight.

I gritted my teeth in anger. They were all prepared with their luggage for an overnight stay. I let out a heavy breath and sped downstairs, just to see my things neatly prepared and contained in a backpack.

“Mom, what does this mean?” I asked her when I saw her preparing the table for breakfast.

“I wasn’t supposed to let you go, Chester, but Naomi insisted. I guess you need a vacation. You’ve been so stressed out this week. Enjoy the weekend, honey.” Mom said and smiled.

Naomi came in and grabbed me by the hand.

“Come on, Chester. Let’s go.” she smilingly urged.

“Wait. I just have to fix myself.”

It was only a five-hour drive from Chicago to Springville. Naomi and I talked a lot the whole trip. I showed my sketches, and she gave me good criticisms, or laughed at it loudly. Andrew sometimes joined the conversation, and ended up making jokes about his cousin. Reese and I just smiled at each other without talking too much. I was kind of shy when it comes to dealing with her.

The other girl I saw a while ago was named Samantha Parker, and the other boy was named Robert Blakely. I talked to Sam for a short while, and I was dazzled by her sunny disposition in life. I gave that Robert a smile, and he gave it back, however, just a slight one. I could sense his dislike of me, but I didn't mind anyway.

As we were driving near the rest house, I felt a sudden kick of excitement inside of me. This was my first out-of-town vacation ever. I was hesitant, and glad at the same time that Naomi had asked me out.

The car pulled into a stop in front of a big, beige house that was facing the sea. It's facade held me in awe and stared at it intently. It was neatly built, and I was sure it had a high-class interior.

Naomi bumped my elbow when she saw me in that expression.

“Hey, let's go.” she prompted.

I was the last one to get out of the car and tried it hard to bring my things. Those stuffs were not heavy enough though.

I was spell bounded by the house's interior design when I came in. the sun's rays filtered almost each and every corner of the house, making it a beautiful haven for everyone to enjoy. The house also offered a great deal of space, a free universe that allows us to explore farther. Marble floors were all around. They reflected an image of my own self when I stared on the ground. The house seemed to envelope us in a warm welcome, and gave out a smile, despite the fact that we were strangers.
