“Come with me.” Hera said when I parked my bicycle at school the next day. I hit the stand and settled it. I grabbed my bag from the basket and slung it on my shoulder.
“Where are we going?” I asked.
“You and Naomi should talk. There are a lot of things to make up, and maybe it’s time to tell her how you really feel.” she answered. That was really pointless. I didn’t want to talk to her at this moment. And about the last time I kissed her... I knew I should apologize for it.
“I’m sorry about last time. You know, the kiss.” I said and looked at the ground. She patted my shoulders and cheerfully replied.
“It’s okay. And don’t tell me that. You should tell it to Naomi.”
I shrugged and let her drag me to where her sister was. She brought me to the rooftop and left us there. Naomi faced the big field in front of her while I slowly approached the balcony. She carried a bag in her shoulder, and as seen from my direction, it was loaded with lots of stuff.
“Hey.” I called out coldly.
She turned to me and gave me a faint smile. I could tell in her eyes that she was still sleepy, and last night’s incident really affected her, or should I say both of us.
“Hey,” she replied. I took the steps and stood beside her, and then we both faced the field.
“I’m sorry-“we both said in unison but was both cut off. We laughed and I told her that she should go first.
“I’m sorry for everything. I’ve been too careless with my actions, and I just want him to like you.” she explained.
Yeah, I’ve been hearing that a lot of times from other people. I felt my heart soften at this moment, and I knew I was close to forgiving her. She was sincere. I could really see it in the way she looked at me in the eyes.
I smiled. “I’m sorry, too...” I trailed off. I’m about to say my true feelings for her, but I’m still thinking on how to say the right words. My heart beat faster than it should be, and I felt my throat dry up.
“For...?” she prompted.
“For being so mean.” I squeezed my eyes shut.
She laughed. “You’re so funny.” she lightly slapped both of my cheeks to wake me up. I opened my eyes and I saw her radiant smile before me. In a rush, and out of the loss for words, I leaned in and kissed her lips.
We remained still, feeling the world stop at our knees. It was the best thing that I could tell her how she made me fall for her, and love her like she’s the last girl in the planet. I felt her smile under my lips, and I decided to let go.
“I love you.” I said to her lovingly. I held her hands on my own, and I couldn’t suppress my smile from forming on my face. She launched her arms to me. I was surprised at her sudden answer.
“I love you too.” she uttered, and as carefully as I could, I hugged her back.
We walked into the classroom with our hands intertwined with each other. As we looked into each other’s eyes, we knew that this was the best thing that ever happened to us. Enough of denying and enough of the keepings. Love hit me twice in different ways, and for now, I could say all the tears I cried were worth it. Just for now. The future ahead of us was still unpredictable.
Our classmates stared at us as we entered the classroom. They were amazed at how our hands were tightly linked when days ago they saw us treating each other coldly. Well, that was before. We already made it up, and she’s now my girlfriend.
“They’re so sweet!” I heard Jennifer exclaimed. They were all smiling at us like we were newlyweds.
Naomi broke off and sat on her chair. I went to mine and picked the book I’ve been reading for a week in my bag. She called out when I started flipping the pages.
“Hey, come here.”
I smiled and pulled my chair next to her. I clasped her hand on my own.
“Yes?”
Her tone turned serious. She looked down on the ground, and then to me. Her eyes said that I’m about to receive a bad news.
“There’s something I have to tell you. The wedding is tomorrow.” she said.
I couldn’t speak a word. This was one thing I feared to happen, and never thought of happening. My hand dropped from hers and felt the tears roll on my face one by one.
