-Naomi-
I hurriedly got out of the car and walked inside our house. Noah’s hostile action toward Chester boiled me up. He was being overprotective again, and I hate that kind of thing. I was old enough to decide for myself. I slammed the main door shut, leaving him alone standing outside.
I made my way to the stairs when it swung open.
“Naomi! Why don’t you stop and talk to me, you little brat?” he yelled. Is voice bounced in the whole living room, making it louder than what I used to hear.
I spun and made an angry face.
“What do you want?” I almost whined. I couldn’t take his negative approach.
“Don’t you dare walk away from me when I’m talking to you! You’re disrespecting me.”
“How can I respect someone like you? You’re hurting my best friend. And what if we had sex in that one random night? Does it matter that much to you?” I said.
He wore an expression of disbelief in his eyes. He was felt betrayed because of me.
“Why does it matter to me? Because I’m your brother.” he answered.
Brother? Oh well, he was my BIOLOGICAL BROTHER. We were born thirteen years apart. He used his age to make me bow down to him. What a great idea.
“Really? Yeah, you’re my brother, but you’re one of those few men who made me feel alone and dumped. But Chester? He was more than a brother to me. Half of my heart goes to him.”
The way I said those words were full of conviction. I meant it to hurt him, and make him see that he’s just thinking of himself.
His face turned pale. He was struck with my answer. As I laid my eyes on his hand, I saw it balled into a tight fist. His eyes were sharp on me, and my heart started to pace.
“You’re gonna pat for this, Naomi. I’m sure you will.” he said. His voice was laced with pure hatred.
I smirked. “Sure, but I’m gonna make you pay first.”
I turned my back and headed to my room. He didn’t say a word while I reached for the steps. This time, I won the game. This time, I won the game. This wasn’t just about me, but also about Chester. Noah knew everything about him, much to my surprise. Without further guessing, I knew Robert was behind it. He was my brother’s right hand. He adopted him when his father fell ill and his mother died after a terrible accident. He paid for all his expenses, in exchange of doing some confidential things for him. I was angry at the thought. Robert still couldn’t get over from what happened two years ago.
I lay on my bed, recalling everything I said to Noah just a while ago. I knew I was wrong to lash out at him, but I couldn’t stop myself. He was going beyond his limits. He had this kind of attitude that wants to dominate other people. He was feared by his subordinates, and the business world considered him as the deadliest tycoon ever. A ruthless reputation was all he could put up in front of us. But he was never the kind of brother Hera and I wanted. He rarely came home and bonded with us. His friends were always with him almost twenty-four-seven. People don’t have to wonder why we sisters got this close.
The way he treated Chester wasn’t right. My best friend never did anything to him, but his egocentric side shoots up once again. He was too reckless to handle his anger, causing him to put Chester in a shameful scene. I pity my best friend in this situation. He was aggravated and degraded. I didn’t know how to face him after what Noah had done to him.
I dialed his number and pressed the call key. It took me six rings before he answered the phone.
“Chester, are you alright?” I asked immediately. I didn’t bother to say the word ‘hello’ because I knew it was him.
“Yeah, I’m fine.” I replied.
And the line went dead.
I dumped my phone in my bed and sighed. I knew he felt so bad. This was all because of my brother. He’s the one to blame.
I opened my closet to search for anything to wear. I put up my plans of talking to him just now, hoping that we’d find a way on how to win my brother over. A long red and pink dress lay on the floor when I rummaged through my piles of clothes. I picked it up and put it in front of my body to see if it would fit.
“It looks good.” I said to myself and wore it.
I went back to my pile of disorganized clothes and arranged them. A small white pack caught my eyes. I bent down to pick it up. I opened it and circular, pale tablets lay closely one after the other. These were my antidotes for hyperacidity. When I was young, I used to have a lot of stomach pains because of it. It hadn’t expired yet, and something popped out in my mind. This was a crazy and risky thing to do,but I knew this was a sure win over Noah.
I dialed Chester’s number again. He picked up the other end and talked to me in a monotonous voice.
“Hello?”
“Hello, Chester? We’ll talk about something. I’m coming over.”
