-Chester-

“What does this mean?” Naomi asked, her voice breaking out into a sound of anger. She fought her tears from flowing downward. Her eyes bore on me, wanting me to rip apart to ease the pain she felt.

“Isn’t it obvious? Your boyfriend loves me.” Clarisse answered. She made it sure that the lie sank in Naomi’s head.

“Is that true?” she asked me. I couldn’t speak out. My emotions conflicted under my chest. I wanted to tell her that Clarisse was lying, but my mouth remained still and barren.

When she didn’t hear an answer from me, she stormed out of my sight and went outside. Clarisse laughed after what happened. I slapped her and shook her two shoulders.

“Is this what you want?!” I yelled at her.

She smirked and kissed my lips again. “You enjoyed it, didn’t you?”

I threw her on the wall and ran outside to search for Naomi. She us be around the streets, wandering to find some shelter after she had her heart broken. As I got out of the compound, I saw her standing in front of a restaurant. She wasn’t going to eat or anything. I called her out, but she didn’t hear me.

When a bus stopped at her spot, I hurriedly ran over and hugged her from the back. I told the driver that she’s not having a ride, and soon the bus drove away.

She shoved my arms away from her body. She glared at me, and in those eyes, I could see how hurt she was.

“If you’re trying to explain, I have no time to listen.”

“It was a lie. She kissed me and forced herself to me. Do you honestly think that I can cheat on you?” I said.

She turned her back to me and took a few steps. I grabbed her arm and twisted her in my direction.

“Naomi, please believe me. You know I can never do that.”

Her expression was empty. She didn’t answer while her stare cut deep through me.

“She couldn’t believe what?” Noah’s voice emerged through the silence draped between the two of us. So this was why Naomi fell silent. I couldn’t move my mouth to answer or even look at him. His footsteps drew closer, and then he patted my shoulder.

“Well, it’s time to face reality, boy.” he said.

Two men came up behind us and hauled Naomi away from me. She panicked and screamed for freedom when they forced her to come with them.

“Let me go! Chester!” she shouted. No matter how she tried to break free, she was chained with those strong hands. I ran to catch up to her but Noah grabbed me by the hand and jabbed my stomach.

“That’s what you get for being stubborn. Look at you. You’re like a helpless cat.”

I held my stomach in pain while trying to stop a moan from coming out of my mouth. He grabbed the collar of my shirt and held it up. Then he punched me on the face and kicked me. I fell on the ground, hearing Naomi’s helpless calls to come back to me.

I could barely hold my eyelids, and when I lay there feeling so dizzy, I saw her being put in the backseat of a black limo. At the passenger seat, Noah took one last glance at me. Then the car sped away from that very spot.
