-Naomi-

Chester’s eyes were full of anger. I looked at him while my tears fell in constant motion. I didn’t know if he’d accept my explanation, or just ignore it like a trash.

I woke up with the same excruciating pain tearing up my stomach. It seemed like my meds for hyperacidity coordinated with me. I hurriedly got up, opened the door to my bathroom, and vomited all that has to be ejected out of my body. These past few days, my body got more and more painful. I coughed loudly, and that’s when I heard Noah break out into my room.

“Are you alright?” he asked and put his hand on my back, trying to ease my suffering.

“Y-yeah.” I barely said. It was really unbearable. I thought of regretting what I did in the first place, but there was no turning back.

“No, you’re not.” he said and carried me to my bed. He laid me down and put his hand on my forehead.

I was afraid he might find out that I was lying. I haven’t even told him I was “pregnant”. Well of course, that’s some sort of a pathetic joke.

He sat on the bedside and laid his eyes on me. Now, he was beginning to doubt. “Tell me, Naomi. What’s really going on with you?” he asked suspiciously.

I sighed. My heart began to race in fear. I was afraid I’d mess everything up. I’ve come this far. I might as well go on with this. “I’m pregnant.” I plainly said.

He froze. His eyes stared still on me as if he’d seen a ghost. His jaw formed into a tight shape and his hand was shaking. I sat up on my bed and showed him the result of the frog test.

“Here.” I said, giving the small white machine.

He took a look at it, and he got even angrier. “Who’s the father?” he asked. If only it were true, he could have killed that guy.

            “It’s Chester.”

With enough force, he slapped my cheek so hard. I landed on my pillows while he yelled at me. “Why did you do this? Why him?”

“I love him, Noah. It’s just that simple. Don’t worry, he’s gonna take care of our child.” I answered, acting as if there was a creature living inside my body.

“Shit!” he stressed. He stood up and clumped his hair. He was beginning to cry, and I smiled to myself. I won this game. I just have to wait for his verdict.

I sat up again, looking at him. “I’m in good hands, because he’s a good man.” I said and stood up. I walked away from him, and when I was about to open the door, the world around me switched into absolute darkness.

I saw his hands balled into fists as he closed his eyes. “You’re so stupid.” he uttered.

“I’m sorry.” I wiped my tears with the blanket.

He opened his eyes and pointed at me. “Don’t you know what the cost is? Don’t you know how the people we love would feel? You’re not using your mind! You are way beyond the level of dumbness! Stupid!”

He was allowed to insult me any way he wanted. I was the one at fault. I let a moment of silence come between us.

“And how did they know that you’re just acting?”

I was about to speak up when Hera entered the room. “Chester, I told him everything right from the very start, when she was being taken care of by the nurses. I told Noah how she deceived him.  I cleared out your name to him. We found out in the lab results that she took too much of those tablets that’s why she collapsed.”

“This is not a good joke.” he said and stormed out of the place. He banged the door shut. Hera looked at me with a calm face.

“Seems like he had enough of you. Now you better fix things before it’s too late. And watch out for Noah’s payback. I’m sure Chester would suffer.”

            “I know.” I whispered.

Despite the passage of two days, nothing had changed. Noah and Hera hadn’t spoken a word to me after I fooled him. I was feeling better now, but I still have to take medicines for full recovery. I did nothing in school but to stare at an open space. I got no one to talk to. Andrew knew about this, and he too, was dismayed.  He still talked to me, mostly reprimands on why I did that. He also talked to Chester to hear both sides and to my sister as well.

“You’re too reckless, Naomi. That’s what you get.” he said.

“I know. I should make it up to everybody.” We were at the cafeteria. Andrew was beside me, while Reese and Chester sat beside each other in front of us. His gaze was fixed outside while he slowly sipped his soda for our table was located beside the glass wall. I looked at him, hopefully wishing he’d take a glance at me. Mistakes were deadly if I did it with the one I love. I’d risk every single thing I have just to pay for it.

            “How?” Reese asked.

I shrugged, not knowing what to do at all.

“You must start with him.” Andrew pointed at Chester. He just stared at him and returned his eyes to the view outside.

I wanted to utter a word, but my mouth held back. I just looked down on the table.

“Here.” I saw Andrew’s hand give slide a scented envelope in front of Chester. I raised my head to know what’s going on, and I realized that it was Noah’s birthday invitation. This was real trouble.

“Throwing a party at the age of thirty-one? He’s like celebrating his first year on earth.” he said sarcastically. I almost laughed, but I knew I don’t have to.

“So, are you going or not?” Andrew asked.

He looked at him, and then his eyes turned on me. “I’m going.”

It was coupled with an evil smile. Was he serious? I swore I was dead meat for this. He couldn’t be serious. Going into my brother’s upcoming party was like entering a dungeon and facing early death.

            “Really?” Reese said.

His eyes still remained on me. “Yes. I’m really serious. There’s no reason to joke around here.” he said and stood up. He left us without adding his statements.

That was it? I’m starting to go crazy about the party, and how would Chester face my brother’s wrath.
