-Chester-
Slouched on the sofa in our living room, I slowly took a bite of my blueberry muffin while I watched The Time Traveler's Wife on TV. I was beginning to break out into tears as the main characters discovered the truth behind all the mysteries lurking underneath the series of events. As I bit my muffin again, Naomi suddenly crashed inside the place, all dressed up and wearing a pair of high-heeled sandals.
“Do you mind if i ask you out?” she asked. She wore a pink tube gown that ran to her knees, a black blazer that tightly hugged her shoulders, ans a pair of sandals that increased an inch of her real height.
“As in now?” I threw the question back. It was seven-thirty in the evening, and as far as I could tell,Naomi didn't have any kind of night life.
“Yeah.” she said with a nod.
I rolled my eyes in refusal.
“No.”
She walked to my direction and sat beside me. She took the muffin from my hand and ate it wholly.
“I'll take care of it. I'll let you use my brother's clothes.” she said while chewing the stolen food inside her mouth.
My jaw almost fell on the floor with what she said. Was she kidding me? His brother was thirteen years older than the two of us. He was probably twenty-nine. I was pretty sure his clothes were so big for me.
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah. So you better come with me.”
I stood up hesitantly, then switched the TV off. I wasn't sure where this was going. I just followed her footsteps out of this house.
While riding in the long, shiny black limousine, Naomi told me the whole story. It was Reese's birthday party, held at one of their family owned- hotels here in Chicago. She turned seventeen today. I was lucky enough to make a sketch of her just a few days ago. I brought it now as a gift to her.
Naomi grabbed it from my hand and looked at it.
“Wow, Chester. You're such a good artist. This deserves a standing ovation.” she praised.
I blew my bangs off and pouted my lips. I didn't know if it was a joke or a real compliment, and how could she say it easily when she doesn't even appreciate art.
The limo halted to a stop. A good-looking chauffeur got out of his seat and opened the door for us.
“Here we go.” Naomi said as she led the way to a certain room in her house. Her heels ticked against the white marble staircase as we ascended upstairs. We passed by five rooms before we reached his brother's room. She opened the door, and what was laid in front of me totally pinned me from where I stood.
An elegantly designed, dimly lit bedroom was taking up my whole eyesight. The bed was king-sized, with its pure white sheets neatly laid over it. There were two huge cabinets located adjacently from each other. I walked down the floor and looked around me, thinking that this is the best room I had ever seen.
My jaw dropped open when I swung one cabinet open. The clothes, especially the suits, were neatly and orderly arranged. The suits were hung by color, making it appear like a rainbow, yet not curved. The shoes, most of them were made of leather, were very shiny. The ties of different colors were rolled cutely in their own places. I swallowed before touching any of those articles of clothing. I might mess them up.
Naomi's voice broke inside the room. Her heels ticked against the floor as she took the steps and stood beside me.
“Go get dressed up, Chester. You can choose any of my brother's clothes. I'm sure it will look good on you.”
