-Chester-
Liam Collins.
He was the guy Naomi loved ever since the world began. It all started when we were in kindergarten, when she saw Liam sitting alone on a chair. She befriended him and her feelings for him started at that young age. Liam and I were not that close. He was aloof to people and prefers to be alone. Now, after seeing him with some other girl in his shiny red car, I noticed how much he changed. I didn’t know if his transfer to our school was for real or just for Naomi to piss me off. As I prepared my bike to head off to school, I kept on thinking about him, though I knew I never crossed in his mind.
Naomi was hyperactive upon seeing me parking my bike. She wore the brightest smile that she could ever have. She put her two hands on my shoulders.
“Guess what, I just saw Liam in the cafeteria. Wanna go there?”
I rolled my eyes. “Whatever. Stalk him if you want to.”
“You have to go with me. I think he still remembers you.” she said and dragged me by the hand. She brought me to the cafeteria, where Liam was sitting alone; drinking his cold can of soda.
“Hi!” Naomi waved from the door as we got in. Liam waved back and smiled. We sat on a couple of vacant seats in Liam’s table. He chatted with Naomi for a while, and I fixed my gaze on the view outside.
“It’s nice that you’re here. Since when did you come back from London?” Naomi asked him.
“Just two weeks ago. I decided to enroll here because most of my friends from grade school are here.”
Naomi chuckled in a flirty manner. “Oh, come on.”
“How about you? Do you have a boyfriend already?” he asked.
“Me? Nothing. I don’t have any plans yet. And I have my best friend beside me. Right, Chester?” she said, and cling her arm on my own.
I blinked. “Yeah.” I blurted out and looked at them.
Liam laughed. “Hi, Chester. You and Naomi are still together. Going strong huh?”
“Yeah. I’m lucky to have this girl as my best friend. Anyway, are we gonna be classmates?” I said, starting a little talk with him.
“No. I’m on the next classroom beside yours.” he said.
“Oh, I see.” Naomi reacted, discouraged of what she just heard. That was a good sign for me. I laughed to myself. Naomi sensed my action, so she nudged my ribs. “Shut up.” she grunted.
“Um, Naomi. Do you mind if I take you out this weekend? I have two concert tickets. Mine is the first one, and I’m planning to give you the other ticket. Are you free?”
Naomi’s face lighted up. “Yeah, sure. I’m free.” And she looked at me with happiness in her eyes. I didn’t remind her about the affair we were supposed to have this weekend. I let her follow what she wanted, though Liam’s offer offended me a little.
“Okay, then. See you Saturday night.” he said and stood up. He walked away and Naomi laughed in pure joy.
“Oh my god! Did you see that, Chester? He invited me to a concert! I can’t wait for Saturday to come. Man, this feels so good. I swear I love him already.” Naomi fretted and kept on smiling like a jerk.
“Yeah, have fun.” I said lamely, and she just continued to flatter herself. Foolish girl.
