As soon as I saw the cuts, I wanted to yank Claire over to me and never let her go. I think she understood me throughout the talk though. But I have a mission to find her blades. I mean, maybe I could get her to hand them over, but I doubt it.
"You're eggs are fantastic," I say after one bite which makes her laugh and smile down at her plate. "You're a fabulous cook Claire."
"Thanks Blake," she murmurs and finally peers up at me. I hold her gaze with mine and then I clear my throat and she pales a little.
"Hey Claire, where is your blade? Or do you have more than one?"
"I have two. They're in my pocket."
"Claire, please give them to me."
"Why?" Her voice is soft and I can tell she doesn't want to give up the damn blades.
"Because. I want them out of your hands because I am not going to let you do that again. Okay?" I put my elbows on the table, resting my head in my hands as I look across the table at her.
"Make me," she murmurs. What she didn't expect was for me to grab my crutches and kiss her. She got up, prepared for a fight, and my lips caught hers. I let one hand travel from her hips to that beautiful ass of hers. My hand makes it to her pocket, but there's nothing. I check the other while my lips are still pressed to hers, but I get the same results.
"You need to go eat," Claire says with a smile as she looks up at me. She doesn't know what I'm doing.
"In a minute. Come here." I kiss her again, my hand going to her front pocket this time. Bingo.
Before she can stop me, I have the blades out of her pocket, but I cut my finger in the process. "You ass! That's why you were kissing me!"
"Oh baby, I'll kiss you much better when we're done. You'll enjoy it." I go back to my seat and smile at her, but she's scowling. "Hey, Claire-"
"Shove it up your ass."
"I love you." I catch the spoon that she throws at me and laugh softly. "Claire, I really do."
"You kissed me just to steal my blades!"
"And I'll kiss the hell out of you later because I really do love you. I love you so much that I didn't want you to hurt yourself anymore."
Her face softens a bit, but she shoves a fork-full of eggs into her mouth, and doesn't talk until she swallows. "Fine. I believe you."
"Good. Because it's the truth." She rolls her eyes and we eat in silence, but right when we finish, her phone starts ringing it. She freezes, but when she answers it, she seems relieved.
"Yes Meg?"
She hits speaker, and Meg starts spitting out words. She's like a fucking waterfall of words. "Okay, so you know Chase? He dumped me a while ago, but he called me a little while ago and he wants to go out with me again and I wanted to know if we can go on a double date, I mean it would be super duper fun and I know you hate him but please Claire?"
"Megan, it's Blake. Chase is no good. Don't get involved with him again. It'll only lead to you getting hurt."
"But Blake, he asked me out and he seemed so sincere about it and I mean I really liked him! Blake I'm going on the date whether you come or not because I like him Blake and he likes me so either you come or I go alone!"
Claire heaves a sigh and rubs her temples. "Give me an address. A place. Something. We'll be there."
