Chapter 35 (Trouble in Paradise)

As we neared the entrance the sound of laughter and joyous chatter got louder along with the light music in the background. Light poured out and the beginning of a never ending ball room came to sight. Two doormen stood at either door with a fake smile plastered to their faces as the welcomed the guests in. When we entered my mouth flew open from the sight of the high ceiling covered with murals giving a sweet melodic story of the heavens. A great chandelier hung from about filled with miniture light bulbs giving out a blinding light despite their fairly small sight. Diamond hung from the side giving an uplifting twinkle to the whole room and curtans were pulled apart letting the starry scene through the massive windows.

Decorations weren't any less as tables were set along the side with bouquets of white roses and matching and equally elegant table cloths covering them. The plates were glass and encrypted with an intricate pattern ready for the guest coming. Couples and groups were gathered along the dance floor and tables as they laughed and discussed light topics. A small stage was set up the front with a single piano on which someone was playing a beautiful symphony composed by beethoven himself. I smiled at the light atmosphere glancing once more around the cream room.

As I entered things grew a bit more silent as people stopped talking and it subsided as silence took over with people pulling their attention towards me instead. Alex's hold on my back fell lower and tighter so his hand rested on the small of my back as a faint colour rose to my cheeks. I smiled at everyone politely and looked towards Alex confused and embarressed at the excessive display of emotion. Alex, sensing my discomfort smiled down at me reassuringly and guided me swiftly to a table right in the middle of the sitting area.

There were four people surrounding the table, a man and a woman who seemed to be his wife. Both were dressed exceptionally well and seemed to be in their mid thirties. The man wore a long dark black suit and a yellowy cream tie, his hair gelled back and face freshly shaven. A golden pocket watch hung from one of his lower buttons into the pocket low down on his waist coat. The accompanying woman was astoundingly beautiful with skin like a porcelin doll and a long emerald dress which trailed to the floor and hung well to her toned body. Her hair was up in a high bun and pink cheeks brought out by light blush bringing out her olive green eyes. The other two guests occupying the table were two children who seemed to be round the ages of 10 and 16, both girls. Both were dressed in simple yet equisite dresses which reached just above their knees giving them a refreshing young look.

'Oh Alexandra! How good to see you?' the woman gushes over Alex and pulls him into a tight hug. Alex himself stays composed and returns the kind embrace.

'Alexandra?' I raised an eyebrow as he narrowed his eyes at me and broke apart from the woman.

'I'm fine thanks how are you?' he replied in a gleeful voice.

'Nice to see you son it's been a long time,' the man smiled a sincere smile and shook Alex's hand then embraced him in a quick hug.

'Hey Poppy, hey Grace how are my two favourite girls in the world?' Alex grins from one ear to another as he hugs both of them tightly and spins the little one around.

'Have you brought me the special secret?' the little one asks expectantly holding her right hand out. Her blonde hair falls in loose curls around her shoulder as does the older one who I expect is her older sister.
