Faith's POV

The rush to the police department was excruciating and full of nerves. To be able to have someone know more details about the captor was a good thing because the more we found out, the closer we got to finding Alex.

Zayn and I dressed quickly, all in black, before Zayn drove off. I couldn't promise that we had stopped at the red lights. As dangerous as that was, Zayn was already used to it and had become an expert on driving safely while over the speed limit.

We were told to wait outside of the police office while the witness was being interrogated by the sheriff and detective. I couldn't keep still, walking back and forth while Zayn held on to the railing and looked as it started to rain.

"Are you cold?"

I turned to Zayn, noticing how he was about to take off his leather jacket. I shook my head, reminding him that I had one of my own on. "I'm just anxious. They've been having us wait for half an hour."

"We have to be patient. The longer is takes, the more details we'll have on the fucker. The witness probably has a lot to inform about, that's a good thing."

I sigh, nodding my head but still feeling that pull to go into the office and ask what they found out. I fight with myself, telling myself that I should go over with Zayn to stop myself from running in. Once I've settled on it, the door opens, revealing Jake.

He doesn't appear surprised at us being here, nor he should be. He walks out with a Manila folder in hand and a stern look on his face as he walks to us, but not fast enough.

I run to him, desperate for what he might know. "What did the witness say? Do they know who took Alex?"

Jake rubs his hand over his face, "I didn't get to hear much but from what I did, they might know exactly who the person is."

I freeze, heart beating heavy against my chest. "And if they do know who the person is, what happens next?"

"Then we can investigate when that person was last seen, contact family and friends and figure out if they've noticed if the person has been acting suspicious, try to figure out a clue as to what they've been up to and where they could be."

"And then?"

Jake looks into my eyes, something I've been avoiding. He's done so many unfortunate things in my life, things that have affected not only Zayn and I, but Alex. If Jake hadn't accused Zayn to the police and had him arrested, things would be different. This wouldn't have happened.

But as I look into Jake's eyes, I can see something... Something that he hasn't admitted to me in words. He looked at me with regret. Regret for what he had done to me and my family. Regret for taking away the person Alex and I needed the most. Regret for ruining my life years ago.

I couldn't forgive him just yet. I don't even know if I ever could. Right now, all I was focused on was finding Alex. Afterwards, I don't know what would happen, what I would feel. But as of right now, my hatred for someone I called my brother, my best friend, was pushed aside. He was helping us and he was important in this mission. I couldn't make this about us when this all came down to Alex and his wellbeing. We needed to find him.

Jake notices my desperation, my need to push those feelings aside. He knew how important this was to me, how much my life depended on it. I couldn't function without Alex, and Jake was willing to help us find the special key to our family. He'd help in any way he could.

"And then we can get to Alex."

**

"How long have you been waiting for?" Xavier asks after he, Mandy, Aaron, Sam, and Ben get out of their cars and come to the benches where Zayn and I were waiting. Jake had gone back to the sheriff's office to see how much longer they'd take.
