Faith's POV

We all stood around the table as Jake set a map down, expanding it so every corner was showing. Everyone had their eyes on it, especially the red pins standing in different, but close parts of the map. They were locations.

"Since we couldn't find any family members of this criminal, I spoke to random people in the streets to find out if they've seen him around," Jake says, pointing to the first location. An isolated garage near town. "Old man told me he saw him loading junk in a van from the garage. Wore all black and tried not to make any contact with anyone on the street."

"Did he see what he was loading?" A female voice says beside me. Anastasia.

Even though it's been years since she and Jake broke up, I could tell things were still awkward between them due to the lack of eye contact Anastasia made with him and the way he cleared his throat. I didn't know what the future held for them but right now, there were more important things to worry about than two individual's love lives. Besides, I still agreed that Anastasia deserved better. I don't know if she trusted him. I certainly still doubted myself.

After Jake clears his throat and Xavier looks at him as if he's been waiting forever, Jake replies with, "He wasn't close enough to see and he didn't take a second glance since he didn't know who the criminal was. But I had the team check the garage out. It was loaded with ropes and all other types of equipment you'd find at a Home Depot."

Zayn clenches his fists beside me on the table. His jaw is clenched and he looks bothered to no end. "So basically materials that shouldn't be used around a child?" He asks harshly, scoffing quickly afterwards and shaking his head. "Fucking prick."

Ben looks at Zayn with sympathy before he looks at me. He shows no emotion but I can tell he really wants to show a sign of comfort though I don't want anymore sympathy. All I need is their help to get Alex back.

"Moving on..." Jake continues, looking back down at the map. "He was also spotted near Faith and Zayn's apartment building two nights before he took the kid. A woman saw him when she was getting out of her vehicle. Said he looked as if he was in search of something, in search of..."

"A way to get in." Zayn finishes his sentence, crossing his arms over his chest. He sighs, looking frustrated.

"Last time he was spotted before he took the kid was at a truck dealership. Bought a black 2013 van with black tinted windows. Nothing inconspicuous about that." Jake says sarcastically while rolling his eyes.

"So what now?" Xavier asks, everyone looking at Jake for an answer.

Jake doesn't seem nervous when everyone stares at him. He walks back to a desk in the room and grabs a folder with papers in it before walking back and setting the folder on the table. "I had the team search for any hidden places in the city and town. They got down to five. But it's not definite that he'll be in one of these five. After all, he's trying to stay as hidden as possible. There's a huge possibility that he's on the outskirts of the city."

"No," I drop my head in my hands, feeling tears build up in my eyes. A hand brushes my shoulder and I'm sure that Zayn is trying to comfort me even though he feels as exasperated as I do. "How are we going to find him if he could be anywhere? We're never going to find him." My voice cracks.

"Faith."

I look up and my eyes meet with Jake's. He no longer holds a smolder. Instead, there is a sign of comfort and empathy. I didn't want it, but when I saw how he felt through eye contact, I didn't mind it. Even though he was one of the causes of how my life ended up like it did, he was still my blood and I couldn't change that. He was trying his hardest to help us find Alex and despite our differences, I would make sure to thank him once he completed his mission. I didn't know what would happen afterwards but he should know that right now, he was helping me feel better.
