Faith's POV
"That's her, isn't it? The girl who got knocked up by the gang member?"
"Oh my God. The criminal's slut is walking towards us. I don't want to be near her, who knows who else she's slept with. Girls like those are the ones we have to look out for."
"Did you hear about what happened to her? She got dumped by her juvenile boyfriend. He was arrested. Poor thing, now she's knocked up with a baby that's going to grow up just as bad as it's father."
"Lord knows the whore will need help. Such a shame. She had a bright future ahead of her and now she's going to waste it taking care of a child who will end up in jail at least twice."
I can hear them. Hear every single judgmental thing they say about me with no hint of sympathy. They don't care about me hearing as I stand feet away from them. I roam through the market store, grabbing every item I need and continue to push my cart through. They move away when I pass them, afraid that I'll do something to them or contaminate them. It's idiotic and stupid the way they think of me. For them to think ill pass an illness that will have them attract criminals is the stupidest thing I've heard.
"Don't listen to what they say. They're being irrational," Liam says beside me, holding on to one side of the cart as we make our way to the register.
"They're low lives is what they are. Judging me when they have husbands cheating on them right this second. I don't blame them. If they talk like this every day, I'd want to escape from them, too." I say, sighing as I catch them staring before they turn and pretend to look somewhere else. I shake my head at the women who are older than forty. I thought the older we get, the more mature we become. Clearly that didn't stand for them. They were thirteen judging by the way they acted.
Liam shakes his head, and I know it's because he hates it when people act rude against each other. He didn't approve of my words but I didn't need his approval. If they were allowed to judge me, then I was allowed to do the same. At the end of the day, what they said didn't matter but it didn't mean that it still didn't hurt. I was seven months pregnant with my son and I wasn't having the best few weeks. It was a miracle that Liam got me out of the apartment. I wanted to stay and sleep but he had convinced me to come when he told me he would buy me every craving I had.
And it wasn't like I was using him for his money. Liam was my friend since high school and he had always been caring towards me. Even though he was studying in Uni right now, he'd still drop by every so often to check on me and my health. I was grateful to have him in my life, just like my other friends. I was blessed to have such supporting people in my life.
After Liam pays for the food and I ignore the lingering stare the girl in the register gives me, we walk out of the market store with the gossip women looking at us. We make our way to the parking lot where Liam's car is and put the food in the car.
"I should have defended myself. I can't let them think they can say those things to me, especially with the baby being able to hear them." I tell him as we finish loading everything in. I shake my head, crossing my arms over my chest. "He shouldn't be hearing that, you know? I'm happy that he's coming and that's all that should matter. I should have said something."
"Saying something would have resulted into making a scene and I'm sure that's something you would wish upon yourself," Liam rationalizes, taking the cart somewhere off the road and close to the market store.
"I wouldn't allow that and besides, who else is going to defend me besides myself?" I ask him, waiting for him to return.
Liam walks to me, stopping in front of me with a serious yet sympathetic look. "You know if he was here he would have."
