One, two, three and four, the devil's knocking at your door
Caught in the eye of a dead man's lie, start your life with your head held high. Now you're on your knees, with your head hung low.  Big man tells you where to go. Tell 'em it's good, tell 'em okay, But don't do a goddamn thing they say

"Can you tell me what happened one more time, please?"

Alex huffed "I already told you 3 times. Stop making me repeat myself."

"I just need the details," the detective pressured, making Alex more impatient as each second passed.

"I told you. He came home drunk off his ass, my brother and I were in our rooms, and he yelled for us to come downstairs. When I got downstairs, Lester was already there, and my jerk of a father-"

"I don't think that term is neces-"

"He yelled and asked me what took so long, and I asked if he was about to give us a shit storm. He slapped me, and I gave my brother a look that said to run. He did. I told my dad he's an asshole and not a real father, so he punched me and broke my nose-"

"And is that when you ran to the basement and called the authorities?" The detective questioned.

The brunet clenched his teeth. "It's enough that you asked me to repeat this story 3 goddamn times, but if you're gonna keep interrupting me I swear to god, I'll flip this table and leave." He threatened; he would've said he were to shoot him, but he didn't wanna go to jail himself.

The detective glared at Alex, and Alex glared back harder until the detective sighed. He took his glasses off and rubbed his eyes tiredly before putting them back on.

"Is your father drunk often?" He asked, trying to remain calm.

"Yes." Alex rolled his eyes.

"Was he often physically abusive?"

"Yes."

"So why didn't you call the police sooner?"

The brunet glared at the detective even harder. "Oh, yeah, sorry, my apologies. It's not like people aren't always ok with saying: 'hey! My dad's a drunk asshole who likes to hit people and make lots of money!'" Alex answered bitterly.

By now the detective was beyond frustrated. Not angry; just frustrated and irritated. "Right, sorry..." He said, his own tone becoming sarcastic now.

*********
Alex left the building with his mother and Lester, who had also gone through questioning. He had also left the room with the table, indeed, flipped over. He was honestly proud of himself for it.

The drive back home was mostly silent. And this time, Alex wanted the silence. He didn't wanna hear his mother's narcissistic and irritable tone, or his brother's fearful and tired voice. He just wanted to sit in silence, and get away as soon as possible. But of course, that didn't exactly work out.

"Alex?" He heard his mother call. Usually he would've ignored her, but something was off. Her voice was trembling, in an emotion that Alex couldn't quite put. And her tone was calm, yet cautious.

"Yes?" He asked, raising an eyebrow at her even though she had to keep her eyes on the road.

"I-uhm..." She swallowed, "I, I didn't kno-"

"Yes you did." Alex contradicted. "It was happening almost everyday, and you knew about it. So don't you dare start lying to me or yourself." He said, though his own tone also remained quiet and somewhat calm.

His mother sighed, and the conversation ended. Alex was thankful for that, and continued to look out the window for the rest of the way home.

When they finally arrived home and the car pulled up in the driveway, Alex wasted no time in getting the hell out of the vehicle and running up to his room. He closed the door shut and locked it this time, not wanting any interruptions. He violently threw himself on his bed and buried his face in his pillow, yelling in frustrating and pure emotional distress. He was sobbing relentlessly, and there was no doubt that if there weren't a pillow, tears would be streaming down his face rapidly. But instead, they just landed on the pillow as he made no effort to calm himself down.

Ten minutes passed of Alex just continuing to shake violently and crying into the pillow. Eventually his face felt numb, as all the energy basically drained from his body and he fell limp into the mattress and  blankets.

He felt his phone vibrate in his pocket, but he ignored it. He didn't want to talk to anybody right now. A few more minutes passed of him laying limp on his bed, not making a single movement as he breathed and focused on the silence. A silence that, for the first time, he was beginning to enjoy. He started thinking about Ran, and the bet he made with Bristol. There was no doubt in his mind that he was starting to develop feelings for the older blond male, and it almost scared him. But, at the same time, it also made him excited.

He decided that enough was enough, and with just a little bit of trouble he was able to sit up in bed, groaning a bit during the apparent difficult task.

A few more minutes passed of him actually getting out of bed, grabbing 20$ and putting his shoes on before he was out the door, with his skateboard. Immediately, he could feel the eyes of any of his neighbours that were also outside looking at him, and his throat closed up. It felt as if every single molecule in the atmosphere was staring at him, out to get him.

For the first time in a long time, he felt beaten down. Unlike usual, his head was kept low as he was silently shamed and ridiculed, his back and shoulders hunched forward. Usually he would glare back at people, keep his posture strong, and do anything to seem like he dominated everybody else. But this time, he couldn't care less.

Hurriedly, he put his skateboard on the pavement and placed one foot on the board, and the other was kept on the ground as it pushed him forward. He skated down the road rapidly, trying to get as far away from those who were judgemental.

*******
Alex stopped abruptly and picked up his skateboard as he reached his destination. He slowly walked up the driveway and onto the front porch. He rung the door bell, and waited patiently until his long time best friend opened the door.

"Hey," she smiled, "what are you doing here?"

Alex chuckled sadly and smiled as he looked at his feet, before fishing in his pockets for something. Once found, he gave the 20$ bill to Bristol.

"I think you won the bet." He said, smiling in defeat (yes, that's ironic).

Bristol looked confused for a minute, before she finally realized what he meant and she smiled in amusement. Her eyes also twinkling with excitement.

"You wanna come in and talk about it?" She asked, her tone hinting playfulness and sarcasm.

Alex rolled his eyes and smiled. No matter what sticky situation he was in, Bristol always had someway of making him feel better. Even if she didn't know that the boy's miserable, she still somehow managed to make him cheerier.

The boy walked passed his best friend and into her home, and Bristol closed the door, before the two headed up to the girl's room.

"So, what happened?" Bristol asked as Alex sat on her bed and she closed the door. She leaned her weight onto the piece of structure as she stared at Alex, waiting for an answer.

"Uhm, well, you know that one time I told you about how Ran and I got drunk together in a park?" He asked.

"Yeah?"

"Yeah, uh, well, we kinda made out-"

"Wait, what?" Bristol gasped, even though she kind of suspected it.

"Well we got drunk and I don't know, I guess we're both horny drunks..." He said, awkwardly smiling and scratching the back of his head.

"And like, did something else happen?"

"Not really. I mean, you and I both know I'm in an emotional pickle right now," he started, chuckling at his own words, "and I guess he's kind of helping with that..."

"So like, are you two dating?"

Alex shook his head, honestly slightly disappointed. "No. But you and I both know, that I always get want I want." He smirked.
