"Mom,I'm home" I called and I went upstairs. I walked to my room, going through the maze of boxes from unpacking, and laid down on my bed.
I just laid on my bed staring at the ceiling tired from today. I started to pet my new teddy bear. I just thought about how fun hanging out with George was.
I got hungry and I went downstairs to get a snack. I found my mom sitting at the table reading a book. I opened the fridge to see what's there.
"Did you have fun"
"Yeah it was fun"
"What did you do"
"A friend showed me around town today" I said leaving out the part that it was a date knowing how she feels about me dating, even if I am 15.
"Who?" she asked suspiciously.
"This guy named George" I said carefully waiting for her reaction. She actually didn't do anything which surprised me because she would usually get mad at me and tell me I'm too young. All she could manage was "Oh".
"Your not mad at me?" She got up and looked at me. "Julia, I've been thinking. I know that moving was hard especially after your father just died, but we're going to start a new life here. So I decided that you can start off by going out."
It took me a minute or two to process the words that came out of my mothers mouth. That was the last thing I would expect her to say.
"Really? Your not joking? You actually just said that to me?" I asked her. "Yes I think your old enough." Wow. I nearly fainted. Not that I can date but because she said that. "Thanks"
"But I still expect good grades from you" she said. I laughed knowing there was a catch. Also because we both know I will. She used to say that to me every time I wanted to do something that it kind of became a joke between us.
"I will. I promise"
I got a box of cookies from the pantry seeing that there was nothing in the fridge. I walked upstairs still wonder struck.
I started thinking about George. I don't have to keep our relationship secret like with my ex-boyfriend. I could just say I'm going out instead of saying I'm going to the library. I don't have to ask my friends to cover for me anymore (Partly because my only friend was John).
I reached my hand in the box to find it empty. I threw it out to get another snack since I'm still hungry. I went downstairs wondering how I could eat like a pig but stay as skinny as a pole.
I got some crackers and started to stuff my face like I always do. I went upstairs and started to think about George again. I started to laugh because I know he loves food just as much as I do. Maybe a little more. But I doubt it.
