I sat in the tree at the park. Today was a complete mess. Lunch was really tense. Nobody talked and George and Paul didn't even look at each other. I felt like I was responsible for all this. That's probably because I was.
I had a headache and just wanted some quite time. "Ye okay there, Burk?"
"Not now, Lennon."
"I only wanted to know what's wrong. Is tha' too much to ask?"
I drew a breath. "All right, fine." John climbed up the tree and put his head on his hands, as if he was a child being told a story.
"So after George and I broke up, Paul asked me out, as you know. Things have been going real slow, although he hasn't asked me to be his girlfriend. I started seeing George again. Not exactly on dates, but you know. I told Paul and now everything is a freaking mess because of me."
Before I knew it, I was already crying on John's shoulder. He was stroking my hair as my tears soaked his leather jacket. "Shh it's all righ', love."
"No it's not, John. They're friendship is ruined and possibly the band and it's all my fault."
"None of it's yer fault. The band is fine. I promise ye didn't ruin anything."
"I did. I'm cheating on Paul with George and hurting the both of them while doing it. Who does that?"
"I'm sure lots of people do that," he said, trying to help, although not succeeding.
"Only whores do, John. I'm a whore." Another wave of sobs escaped me.
"Yer nowhere near a whore. It was only one silly li'le date wasn't it?" He wiped away the tears falling down my face.
I licked my lips, looking at the tear stain I left behind. "I don't know. I guess it was."
"Then yer fine. Paul said he was alright with it, didn't he?"
"Yeah, but he was only being nice."
"Well, if I were ye, I would just go with yer gut. I'm not really sure how tha' helps but, ye can figure tha' out."
"John Lennon: The solution to all problems," I stated sarcastically.
He chuckled. "Well, I've gotta go. See ye later, love." He slipped down from the tree and landed with a thud. He waved before he got on his bike. He wobbled a few feet before turning the corner.
~**~A couple days later
I stood by locker, talking to Veronica about plans we had later. "...really cute clothes."
"I think I've passed by it before, on my way to work," I said.
"Then should-" she stopped in the midst of her sentence. She broke eye contact and looked beyond my shoulder.
There was a tap on my shoulder and I spun around on my heal. Paul had his arm leaning against the lockers. He was so close to me, I nearly hit his nose when I had turned.
"Oh, hi." I smiled, taking a small stepped back.
"I'm gonna give ye two some alone time, alright? Alright. I'll just be...um...over there," she said awkwardly, slowly inching her way to the the other end of hallway.
I blushed of embarrassment. I cleared my throat, "So, what's up?"
"Are ye free today?"
"Yeah. I think. I'm pretty sure." To be honest, I had no clue.
His demeanor wasn't his normal happy, chubby face. It was much more serious. "I need ye to meet me in the park, or wherever. There's something I have to talk to ye 'bout."
