School was like usually. I was completely ignored by the girls because I wouldn't act like a princess and boys being boys thought I had cooties. I was alone. The only person who would ever talk to me was the secretary. Her name was Miss Dolly. She was different. She loved to wear clothes that didn't match like two different colour earrings or plaid and polka dots. But I have to admit, she always looked great.
"Hey, Miss Dolly." I said as I walked into her office.
"Alex, I was about to go looking for you."
"Why?"
"You know why, to say happy birthday. You're ten now. I can't believe it," Miss Dolly exclaimed.
"Thanks, Miss Dolly." I replied.
"Hey, come here. I have something here for you."
As I stepped closer to Miss Dolly, I saw her grabbing out a locket from her drawer.
"This is for you. It's a locket that you can put a picture of your family in. I thought you would like it even though you don't wear necklaces," Miss Dolly explained as she placed the locket around my neck.
"M-miss Dolly, it's beautiful. You didn't have to g-get me anything," I stammered, "I n-never gave anything t-to you."
"But Alex, you did give me something. Every day, in fact, you gave me someone to talk to," Miss Dolly replied, "And that is the best gift you can ever get."
I went and gave Miss Dolly a hug, and she gave me a kiss on the forehead before saying, "Now, you enjoy that gift and have a great tenth birthday."
"I will. Thanks so much. I love it," I exclaimed as I left the office for class.
