We arrived at Jonas's house.... no mansion at about eight thirty. When we got inside, Hunter found a group of his friends and ditched me. HE DITCHED ME!! At my first party!! How dare he!!
I ended up just wandering around, dodging people, avoiding pillows that were being thrown, and couples kissing in doorways.
I was about to grab a pop from the kitchen table as someone grabbed my elbow and twirled me around. I tried to hit my attacker, but instead I was almost thrown to the ground.
"What was that for?" I yelled.
What's when I noticed I was face to face to face with Hunter and.... JONAS!!!
"Hey, didn't mean to scare you. Sorry," Hunter replied. Then he looked at Jonas and said, "Jonas, my step sister, Alexandra. Alex, this is Jonas."
"Hi." was all I managed to say. I was standing in front of my biggest crush.
Jonas looked tall and his whole body was strongly built. He looked so handsome in his black denim jeans, black tee, and basketball Letterman jacket. I can't help but mention that is hair was gorgeous and kinda curly. The thing that captured me most was his sharp emerald green eyes. Jonas described in one word: HOT.
"How's it going? Liking the party?" Jonas asked.
"Good. The party is awesome."
"Well. I think I'm just going to leave now..." Hunter whispered and slipped away before I could stop him.
Hunter had just left me with Jonas. I had no clue what to say or do.
"Alex, by any chance, do you like basketball?" Jonas asked casually.
"Yeah, I love it. I'm on the team at school. Number 11."
"That's cool. I heard you are awesome at three point shots," Jonas smiled, "Do you want to take some shots on the court out back with me?"
"Sure, I'd love to. Be prepared to be shown up."
"I don't plan on it. I happen to be pretty good myself," Jonas stated, "Follow me."
I followed Jonas to the backyard where there was a huge pool, a basketball court, and a tennis court.
On the basketball court, a group of guys were playing a half-court game, but noticed us and slowly left.
"Here. Do your worst," Jonas said while passing me the ball.
I did one swift motion with my arms from behind the three point line, and the ball only hit net.
"Sweet shot."
"Thanks. It was nothing," I replied, "Let's play a half-court game, one on one."
"Sure."
We played for about ten minutes. In those ten minutes, I scored five baskets, four of which were three points shots. Jonas only scored two baskets.
"Wow. It's so sad. You can't beat a girl," I teased.
"That's funny. I thought I was going easy on you."
"Well, if you're going easy on me, you must really suck when you're trying," I told him.
"Hey, I didn't know you were so full of smack talk. Throw the ball here and we will have a three point shot showdown. Whoever misses first gets drinks for us."
"You're own. You better get the glasses ready. I love a good Cola over ice."
"Competitive, sassy and cute. Who would have known?" Jonas smiled.
We took turns going back and forth taking shots. By shot twelve, Jonas had already almost missed three while I had all clear dunks. As Jonas threw his thirteenth ball, I could tell he had missed. And miss it did.
"All I have to do is get this shot in and then you have to get us drinks."
"True. Make it a good one," Jonas said.
In response, I shot and dunked the ball in ease.
"So where's my drink?" I asked as I turned around to look at Jonas.
His face had an expression of pure embarrassment, jealousy, and admiration.
"That was one great shot. You were right. I was totally shown up, by a cute girl," Jonas stated as he blushed, "Where did you learn to shoot so well?"
"My dad taught me. He was the lead shooter on his college basketball team. Three point shots were his speciality. He taught me everything I know about basketball," I sighed as I recalled the memory of my dad and I in the park practicing basketball for long hours.
Jonas must have noticed I was shaking as I thought about my dad because he said, "What's the matter? You aren't looking good."
"I'm okay. I was just thinking about my dad. It's nothing," I persisted.
"You sure? It looks like you really miss him." Jonas said this while taking a few steps closer to me so he was directly in front of me, "Do you need anything?"
"I would love my Cola over ice. I did beat you, remember?"
"Oh, I remember. I don't think I will forget being beaten by a girl at three point shots anytime soon especially if you keep bringing it up."
Then with one casual movement he took his hand in mine and let me back to the house.
In the kitchen, he grabbed two glasses, ice and a two litre bottle of Cola. He filled the glasses with ice and poured the Cola over it. Then he offered me a glass while sitting beside me on the other stool by the counter.
We sat there sipping at our drinks for a few minutes without talking. Jonas broke the silence.
"I was wondering if you wanted to come to a..." but he never finished because he was interrupted by shouting coming from the other room. We got up to check it out.
As we walked into the room, I saw Hunter standing over top of one of his friends shouting, "What kind of friend are you? You can't go stealing my girlfriend!"
I ran over to him and looked him in the face. His eyes were blue and filled with fury and his breath smelled faintly like beer. He was most definitely drunk.
I pulled him away from his friend and let him to the door. He fought me hard, so I called out for help.
Jonas came and took a hold of Hunter and I led them to the car. I took the keys from Hunter's jacket pocket and unlocked the car. Jonas put Hunter into the passenger's side of the car and then walked up to me.
"It was fun playing basketball with you. We should do it again sometime."
"I would love to. Here's my number. Call me up whenever you feel like losing to a girl," I said while handing him my number I had written down on a Skittles wrapper. (What! It was the only piece of paper I had in my purse.)
"Sure will. See you at school, Alex."
"Call me Lex," I replied as I hopped into the car.
