All my Friday morning classes dragged on. I was just so excited to tell Jonas the news that I couldn't stand waiting through class. But by the time the lunch bell rang, I didn't even have to look for Jonas because he was at my locker waiting for me.
"What's up, Lex? You look excited." Jonas smirked while taking my bag off my shoulder and putting it in my locker for me. "Why don't we get a bowl of fries from the cafeteria and sit outside and talk."
"Sure."
We walked to the cafeteria and Jonas bought a bowl of fries and a Cola. He grabbed two straws and a couple of napkins. I took the Cola and straws and carried them in one hand. Jonas held the fries and napkins with one hand and took mine in the other.
"Shall we?" He asked while gesturing to the door with our adjoined hands.
"We shall," I replied.
We walked outside and found a picnic table under a big maple tree. Jonas set down the fries and sat down while I opened the Cola and put the straws in. I sat beside him.
"So," Jonas started, "why are you so excited? It looks like you discovered a unicorn and are trying not to puke from amazement."
I smiled. "It has nothing to do with a unicorn," I insured Jonas, "It's about Saturday."
"Okay. Are you going to tell me?" Jonas questioned.
"Only if you care," I said with a smirk.
"I think I do care considering it's about OUR date," Jonas chirped while gesturing at us both.
"Well, only because you care," I said dramatically to annoy Jonas. "Hunter has arranged an excuse to get me out of the house."
"Perfect," Jonas exclaimed. Then he put on a serious face. "So what did he arrange?"
"He said he needed someone to drive him to a friend's so he could drink and stuff. He told Mrs. Jameson I would do it," I explained.
"Well, with that figured out.... I think someone deserves a gift."
"What sort of gift?" I asked with a slight laugh.
"Just close your eyes and you'll know soon enough." Jonas smirked. I stared into his green eyes which were filled with mystery and something else I couldn't quite pin down.
I took a fry and had a sip of Cola before closing my eyes. Once my eyes were closed I heard the bench creek. Shortly after I felt Jonas's breath on the back of my neck, slow and even. Within seconds I could feel the faint cold chain being placed around my neck. Jonas then rested his hands on my shoulders.
"You can open your eyes now," Jonas whispered into my ear.
I slowly opened my eyes. I looked down at my neck and hanging around it was a silver chain with a heart on the end. This heart had a hole in the middle that was shaped like a keyhole.
I smiled at Jonas and said, "Thank you. It's beautiful, but where is the key?"
Jonas didn't even hesitate; he swiped his keys out of his pocket. On his key ring there were three keys. One of the keys was for his house, the other for his car. My gaze rested on the third key. It was smaller and had a thin silver chain through it attaching it with the rest of his keys. The key was about an inch long and had a heart on it.
Jonas took the small key off his key chain and answered," I have the key to your heart." as he placed the key into the keyhole of the heart on my necklace.
Even though it was sort of cheesy, I couldn't help myself. I hugged him. "Thank you. I love it. But I'm just saying, that line was kind of cheesy," I laughed.
"Well, I like cheese," Jonas responded with a smile. "Can I take a picture of you with it on?"
"Yeah, but I think you should be in it too," I insisted.
Jonas took out his phone and held it away from us. He pulled me close and wrapped his arm around my shoulder.
"On three. One, two, three." And as Jonas was about to snap the picture, I leaned in to kiss his cheek.
Jonas looked at me, set his phone down on the picnic table and wrapped his arms around me. Jonas pulled me to his chest and ran his hands through my hair. I placed my face against his chest and listened to his heart beat. After a few seconds in that position, Jonas tilted my head back so I was staring into his eyes.
"You are so cute," was all I heard before Jonas kissed me. Jonas kissed my lips, the tip of my nose and my forehead. I pulled away long enough to look at Jonas. His eyes were loving and mysterious, and yet his touch was soft but fierce. I could feel the heat of his hand on my back even when it was gone.
I leaned in and engulfed Jonas in a hug. I put my arms around his neck and ran my fingers through his soft hair.
Jonas smirked. We hugged each other close. I was breathing heavily, but I didn't care. I was with someone who loved me. What could be better than this?
Jonas and I broke apart slowly. We sat together at the picnic table and feed each other fries while taking small sips from the Cola at the same time. Jonas and I talked about our classes, ate fries, and drank Cola until the bell rang to show the end of lunch.
Jonas kissed me again and I kissed him back.
"I can't wait until tomorrow night," I exclaimed.
"Me, too," was Jonas's response. He took my hand, led me inside and to my locker.
As I had all my stuff in my hands for my next class, Jonas quickly kissed my cheek.
"I love you. See you around five tomorrow." He turned to head for his locker.
"See you then," I got in before he was out of hearing range.
