As Hunter pulled into the driveway, I could tell something was up because inside the house all the lights were on. It was shortly after one in the morning. Who would be up at this time in the morning?
We got out of the vehicle and walked in the side door of the house into the kitchen. Hunter and I were greeted with a grunt and stern wave from Mr. Jameson. Mr. Jameson led us into the living room where the whole family sat, awake and ready for us. We were done for, to put it mildly.
Hunter and I were motioned to sit in the love seat, together, while everyone else pulled up a chair around us. Our circle was filled with death stares and looks of disapproval.
Mrs. Jameson spoke first. "We have called this family meeting to discuss what happened tonight. Now, who would like to go first?"
I looked from Hunter to Mrs. Jameson and back. I was about to speak when Thalia said, "I would like to speak first."
"Alright, then go ahead. Go ahead," Mrs. Jameson responded.
Thalia cleared her throat before saying, "It all started when I saw Alexandra kiss that boy in the driveway. After that I got suspicious and decided that I would keep a close eye on her. I noticed at night she spend lots of her time in her bedroom on the phone talking to the boy in the driveway. But I also noticed Alex was talking to Hunter a lot. So on Friday morning while everyone was leaving for school and work, but Hunter and Alex; I stayed behind to see if I could find something out. And I sure did. I found out that Hunter was covering for Alex on Saturday night. Then after Hunter and Alex left tonight I told mom and dad."
I snapped inside. "You eavesdropping mole! I can't believe that you were listening in on me!"
"Alexandra!" Mrs. Jameson screamed, "What do you have to say about this?"
"You wanna know what I've got to say!" I shrieked while standing up.
"Alex," Hunter interrupted, grabbing at my arm to sit me down, "Don't say anything rash."
"No, Hunter. I'm going tell them what I think. And I think you all are a bunch of dirty, misusing rats! The only reason you adopted me was so I could be you're at home slave! And I should have realized that years ago!"
I yelled back right at them.
"We'll if that's what you think, you should leave," Brianna shrieked.
"Maybe I will!"
"WAIT!" Mr. Jameson shouted over us all. The room went quiet. "Alex, you are going to explain what happened tonight and then go to your room, so we can think about your punishment."
"My what!? I haven't done anything wrong!" I yelled back while standing directly in the middle of the circle, but I was pulled back down into the couch by Hunter.
"Do what he says, Alex," Hunter whispered.
"Oh, alright. If you wanna what happened tonight, I'll tell you. I got Hunter to drive me to Jonas' house. Jonas and I were going out on our first date as a couple. We danced as his house, went out for dinner, watched a basketball game, went to the park, and kissed a couple of times. Is that such a big deal? I am a teenage girl, you know? I can have a social life or a boyfriend," I stated matter-of-factly, "Is that all?"
"Yes, now go to your room," Mr. Jameson responded quietly, "Go."
I left the room in a haste. I didn't look back to see the look on Hunter's face. I knew what I was about to do next and I think he knew too.
I stormed up to my room and slammed the door. I grabbed my messenger bag along with my basketball bag. I grabbed a pair or runners, change of clothes, brush, tooth brush, tooth paste, hair elastics, and extra underwear and socks. I shoved all of that in my basketball bag and zipped it shut. I then grabbed some small Knick-Knacks of my parent's and the fairy tale story book my dad had read to me from and put it in my messenger bag. I also threw in my wallet and money jar.
I changed into a pair of stretch jeans, tee shirt, sweater, and socks. I put on my jacket and a pair of work type boots. I made sure I had my locket from Miss Dolly on as well as my heart necklace from Jonas.
Once I was all prepared I opened the tiny window in my bedroom. I took my bags and dropped them to the ground below me. I then grabbed for the tree that was outside my window. I was just barely holding on but shoved myself out the window towards the tree. I got on just barely. I climbed down the tree and retrieved my bags from the ground.
I looked at the house and from what I could see no one inside had noticed me leave, so with my bags, I walked towards the street.
As I was on the other side of the street, I stopped and looked back. I saw Hunter in the window of my bedroom, smiling. This time, though, it wasn't his usual stupid grin. This smile looked like he truly was happy and not up to something. I nodded in his directed and I got a nod back. I took one last glance at the house I called 'home' for four years. Then I walked away without another glance behind me.
