I was startled awake with the sounds of rummaging around, lights shining at my closed eyelids and shouts. "Lady! Get up." I heard over and over again.

When I finally opened my eyes I was greeted with a cold stare and a flashlight shining on my face.

"Get off the couch now!" The officer barked.

I obeyed.

When I stood up, I saw two other officers, both standing behind the couch.

"Miss, you are under arrest for trespassing on private property," the officer in front of me said. "State your name and age, please."

"My name is Alexandra Riley. I'm seventeen years old," I replied automatically.

The head officer scribbled the information down then pointed behind me and said, "Officer Jennings collect all Miss Riley's things and head back to the station. Rogers, you're with me."

The officers nodded and got to their tasks. When the officers left, the head officer said sternly, "Put your hands in front of you like so," he said while showing me.

I did as I was told. Then the head officer took out his handcuffs and put them around my wrists. Too tightly, I might add.

He then lead me out of the bungalow and to the awaiting squad car. I was put in the back of the squad car. The door slammed closed.

It's kinda sad to say this, but it wasn't my first ride in a squad car. I was ten. Officer Ben was driving me to my house after the news of my parents' deaths. I have to admit that my first experience wasn't as scary, but it does help that that time I didn't have handcuffs on.

But as I stared out the window at the rolling landscape, I lifted my hands to my necklaces. I slowly caressed them and thought about how messed up my life was, and how I got myself stuck in this crappy life.

A tear rolled gently down my cheek as we passed by Jonas's house. And ironically, I faintly heard the song, 'Locked Away' by R. City featuring Adam Levine playing on the radio.
