chapter twø :: meeting Ashley and cøntact names

"Hey are you gonna eat lunch with us today?" Josh asked Nicole in a hushed voice in math.

Nicole shrugged and twisted her pencil in her hand.

"You're always allowed to" he said. He slouched back in his seat. Math was always the slowest class for both of them. Nicole noticed Josh kept glancing at the clock and sighing.

Once the bell rang, Josh was the first one out of the classroom. He waited for Nicole at the doorway though.

"I'm gonna assume that just like last week, you aren't going to talk" Josh said.

And he was right. Nicole didn't wanna talk. In fact, the only people she said a word to at that school was her teachers. She only had been there for a week and she already hated it.

It was too far away from home.

The only good thing that came out of it was Josh.

Nicole also hasn't eaten lunch with Josh and his friends in that week. Josh failed to introduce Ashley to Nicole.

"Just don't eat in the courtyard again. I know how it feels to sit out there alone and it's not fun" Josh tried to reason with Nicole. She eventually gave in and walked to lunch with Josh.

"I can pay for your lunch if you want" Josh offered.

Nicole shook her head.

Josh accepted and let her go in front of him in line.

Josh showed her to the table where him, Tyler, Jenna, and Ashely sat.

Josh sat down first. Nicole let him do this because she needed to know where to sit. She didn't wanna sit in anybody else's spot.

She sat in the empty seat, of course next to Josh.

"I wouldn't sit there... That's-" Jenna was cut off by someone tapping Nicole's shoulder.

Nicole slowly turned and looked up.

It was the girl with the colored hair.

"This is my spot" The girl said.

"Ashley" Josh said.

Ashley looked over at Josh.

"Could you let her sit there? Just for today?" Josh tried to reason.

"No. I've sat here every single day since the beginning of the year. I'm not giving it up to the new girl" Ashley said.

"Ashley just-"

Nicole grabbed her tray and got up.

"Nic-" Josh tried to get her to stay.

Nicole just gave Josh a hand gesture that meant it was okay. She walked to the other side of the table and say next to Jenna.

Ashley actually scared Nicole. It wasn't her words or how tough she actually looked but the way she spoke and carried herself. She was so confident to the point where anybody would be intimidated by her.

Nicole's phone chimed her out of her thoughts.

Josh: sorry about Ash. She's kinda possessive over her seat.

Nic: I could tell. It's ok.

Josh: but it's not. I wanted to sit next to you since its your first day actually sitting in the lunch room.

Nic: like I said, it's fine.

"Who are you texting?" Ashley leaned closer to Josh.

"Your Mom" Josh retorted. Jenna coughed and covered her mouth when he said that. Nicole held in her giggles as much as she could.
