Chapter 17: The Truth

I woke up 3 hours before I had set my alarm. Drake was laid on his bed doing something on his phone.

"Drake," I whispered as I put my earphones in my laptop.

"Good, you're awake," He smiled as he lent closer to the camera.

"I need to go say goodbye," I sighed before getting out of bed and taking my earphones out. Micaiah will be so upset I'm leaving, I've only just got here. I slowly opened his door and went over to kneel down beside his bed. He was so peaceful, I don't want to wake him up, but I have too.

"Lamb Chop," I whispered as I softly shook him awake.

"Nika," He spoke still half asleep. "Is it morning?" He asked as he rubbed his eyes.

"No, I just wanted to say good bye," I told him.

"Why? Where Nika going?" He asked confused.

"I'm going back home," I told him as tears rimmed my eyes.

"Why? I don't want you leave," He told me as a tear fell down his cheek.

"Mummy and daddy don't want me here any more, it's best I go, but I will call you ok?" I told him as my tears fell.

"Ok,"

"Don't tell mummy or daddy ok?"

"Pinky promise," He held his pinky out and I hooked it with my own.

"I love you," I told him.

"I love you too," I kissed his forehead before leaving his room and goin into Jelani's.

"Lani," I whispered, lightly shaking him as I did with Micaiah.

"Mmm...what?" He groaned.

"I'm leaving," I told him.

"What?" He snapped his head toward me.

"I said, I'm leaving,"

"Nika, why?" He asked confused.

"You heard them, they don't want me here," I spoke sadly, looking down at his bed as I fiddled with my nails.

"I really don't know what to say,"

"Is it true?" I asked him.

"What?"

"That she's not my mother,"

"Yes," He sighed.

"Are y-you my brother?" I asked, scared of what the answer was.

"Half-brother,"

"How?" I frowned.

"It's very complicated,"

"Tell me, I want to know,"

"Your mother was called Lynsa, her husband, Harlson. Harlson is not your father...my father, Robert is. You see, Carol, Robert, Lynsa and Harlson all lived in Trinidad, they were very good friends. Lynsa and Robert were especially close. They used to sneak off together in the middle of the night. One morning, I came down to see everyone arguing. I noticed that it was Carol and Harlson against Lynsa and Robert. After standing there a few minutes, I heard that Lynsa was pregnant with Robert's child...you. It took ages before everyone settled with the fact that Lynsa and Robert were having a child together, but they soon settled. I don't really know what happened, but everyone went back to their partners and acted as if nothing was wrong. When you were born, they all brought you up together. That's before they all went off to New York to try start fresh. A month after they went to New York. Lynsa and Harlson had ran off. Carol and Robert had no choice but to take you into their care. Carol hated you, she was rarely ever around you once we had moved into New York with them. She acted like that for the first 3 years until she started to act more of a mother toward you-"
