Maya slept, hidden in the basement of a church that night. She woke to the sounds of people entering and snuck out. She went to the public showers and although she hated it, she was clean. Then she went to Riley's.
Cory opened the door.
"Hey, devil, why's your hair wet."
"Someone was using the hair dryer?"
"Someone?"
"John, john was using it."
"Okay. Why do you have your bag?"
"You ask a lot of questions."
"I'm a teacher." Maya slipped past him.
"Your bag is bigger than you." Said Farkle, who was on the couch with Riley. "I'll see you guys on Monday. I have to go."
"Bye." Said Riley. Maya just watched him leave and then turned back to Riley with her eyebrows raised.
They talked for a while and Maya ended up sleeping over, which she appreciated. Before Riley woke, Maya left and went to the Library. Riley texted Lucas, wondering where she was. He texted back saying that he didn't know so Riley texted Josh, who was at the library.

Maya sat in the window where they had worked on there project without their phones.
"Maya?" She turned around to see Josh.
"Hi." She turned back around to her sketchpad. He sat down next to her.
"You're really, different. In several ways. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." She said, passively.
"No you're not." He grabbed the sketchpad and put it down next to him, helping her to stand up. He looked up and down her.
"Maya." Maya stood with her arms hanging down by her side lazily and looking up at him, blankly, not knowing what to say. He leaned in and kissed her. She didn't pull away, she didn't push back, she just stood.
"Didn't you want that?"
"You're sorry for me."
"What?"
"You kissed me, because you're sorry for me."
"I kissed you because I found the right time to." He kissed her again.
"Maya?" She stepped back and turned to see Lucas.
"Lucas."
"What?" Maya was silent. "That's what I thought."
"I kissed her." Said Josh.
"She didn't stop you." Maya looked over at the clock.
"I have to go." She said.
"Of course you have to go, right when this happens."
"I really do have to go."
"Where?"
"I can't say."
"Maya."
"I can't."
"Maya."
"I'll see you at school, Lucas." She grabbed her things and left.
