Chapter thirteen

"What the hell, Maya, I haven't spoken to you in three weeks!" Said Lucas, standing up in the hallway. "You said you would call me when you were less busy."
"I'm sorry. I forgot."
"So you just remembered now?"
"Well, I'm not busy now and I really wanted to talk to you."
"What, did something go wrong and now you actually need me?"
"Luc-"
"Why can't I get that happy girl? I'm fine with being a shoulder to cry on but when you're happy, you just ignore me."
"Luc-" he hung up. Riley looked at him hard.
"What happened?" He asked.
"What? You never gave her a chance to tell you?"
"Didn't she tell you?"
"No, she went to you first."
"She did?"
"Ya."
"I just want to be there when she's happy. Instead of being pushed away then."
"You don't know anything about her schedule, do you? She has classes for longer than we do, piano lessons, swimming, and homework."
"She does all of that?"
"Yes! If she called you in the middle of the day, there is a good reason." Lucas pulled out his phone and dialed the number. No answer. The bell rang and they ran into the classroom.
"Farkle, I left my phone at home. Call Maya!"
"My phones dead."
"Dad, I need your phone."
"Class has began."
"Maya's in trouble."
"What happened?"
"I don't know."
"I'll call her because you guys have to read pages 97-109." He stepped out of the class and dialed the number.
"Maya."
"Mr.Matthews?"
"Riley said somethings wrong."
"I'm fine."
"Then why aren't you in class?"
"Can you not tell Riley?"
"What happened?"
"I'm in the hospital."
"What?"
"I fainted and hit my head. I have a concision."
"Why did you faint?"
"I don't know."
"You took pills?"
"That wasn't all it."
"What did you take?"
"They were harmless pills."
"You're in the hospital!"
"They were just diet pills."
"Why are you taking diet pills? What is going on?"
"Please don't tell Riley."
"Only because I don't want her worried."
"Thank you." She hung up and he stood for a moment, then entering his class and continuing with his lesson.
