Edward's POV
5 Months Later ...
I would've never thought I would get to experience this version of life. For so many decades I'd be forced to live the life of a teenager. However, as Leah and I ventured out by ourselves I was able to become the "breadwinner". My I.D. said I was twenty four and Leah was twenty three she found this humorous considered based on the ages we were frozen at she was older than me by two years. We'd both settled into basic low key jobs. Positions that we could find mild amusement with for eight hours a day. We rented a little one story house and got to live out what we considered a normal life or at least it was what we considered normal. Leah's powers had normalized. She was most definitely a hybrid, she ate normal food, but still experienced thirst. She slept it was rare that she did but when she did she damn near hibernated. She was much stronger than me but was still light enough for me to lift and she loved being lifted.
I entered our house after my work day was over to find Leah sitting on our couch with her laptop in tow. She was taking college courses online. I loved that she was thirsty for knowledge her mind quickly absorbed things just like mine. I'd told her about the many times I'd attended college and she intrigued by this and curious how many degrees she could obtain. I offered for her to go to school full time and she denied me. She wanted to help pay the bills.
"We're a team Edo," she said. "Going to school will just be a little hobby for now. Until we can attend together, once we move back in with your family," she explained.
The longer we stayed by ourselves I was quickly realizing I may not want to go back. Not to stay anyway. I was happy with it just being Leah and me. I wanted to be the man of the house and provide for her.
"I aced that poli-sci exam. I'm a beast!" She giggled as she put her laptop on the coffee table and approached me. She kissed me briefly and began undoing my tie.
"Trust me I know you're a beast," I murmured and kissed her again playfully. She shook her head and rolled her eyes.
"How was your day?" She smoothed her hand over my cheek and looked in my eyes. She was gaging my mood and thirst. She smiled and kissed me again. I wasn't thirsty and I was happy ... elated to be home.
"Good. Basic, my supervisor keeps thinking about promoting me. I'm indifferent towards it." I shrugged and sunk down on the couch.
"I know you are but it would still be cool to be promoted. If you get it you'll probably get lucky," Leah teased as she sat in my lap. I arched my eyebrows and chuckled.
"I have a feeling I will get lucky regardless. I know I'll get lucky tonight!" I kissed my Leah playfully at first and then quickly with more passion. I allowed my hands to caress her bare thighs. She came up for air and pushed me a way a little bit. She chewed on her lips and seemed unsure about something. I tried to read her mind but she was thinking about whether or not to have sex me but I wasn't sure why she was thinking about.
"I want you Leah," I reassured her even though saying it shouldn't be necessary. She gave me a little side smirk. She kissed my cheek. I repositioned her into a straddling position in my lap. I peppered kisses along her neck.
"Oh," she breathed as she started to ball my shirt into her fist. I pulled away only enough to pull her night shirt off. She sat atop me topless I lowered my lips to her left breast and began to suck vigorously on her nipples she yet out a hiss of satisfaction. Her fingers made their way into my hair. I began to lean her back on our couch.
"Edward wait," she whimpered. I stopped and looked in her eyes. She was nervous about something but she wasn't giving anything away in her head.
"Leah?" I breathed. "What is it? You can tell me anything."
"I know Edward," she murmured as she sat upright and grabbed her shirt. "I know." I really didn't like where this was going. She went into the back and put a little box on the table. She sat back down and looked at it with pursed lips and a frown.
"Oh," I uttered and I looked at her. I noticed that she hadn't opened the box. "So you haven't taken it?"
"I'm not even sure it would work anyway," she muttered with a huff of frustration. She got up and began to pace. "I just know lately I feel queasy all the time and dizzy. I think the dizziness comes from the intense never ending pounding I hear in my ears! Each day it gets louder!" I took a second to listen but then there was a knock at the door.
Alice's POV
Edward answered the door with the most perplexed look on his face. He looked as though he'd just seen a ghost. I totally wasn't that kind of monster. He looked as the rest of the family filed out of their vehicles and approached his door.
"You've got to be kidding me," he murmured. He moved to the side and raked his hands through his hair.
"I'm afraid not brother," I said and I was slightly remorseful about but kinda glad the whole family was back together even if it wasn't for the best reasons. We all got settled and Carlisle explained our reason for being here.
"Bella has gone missing. Well, she's not missing we know where she is. She has been taken to the Volturi to be turned. It's what she wanted. Aro sent me a victory letter of sorts. She exchanged information regarding our family and Leah for her opportunity at immortality. Aro has informed me that if we terminate the abomination no harm will come to our family," Carlisle explained.
"I hope you told him that we've broken no laws!" Edward snapped as he wrapped a possessive arm around Leah.
"I haven't responded to him. I feel this conflict would be best remedied in person. I am hoping that we can reach him before Bella is turned," Carlisle explained. "Aro was also quick to mention that our coven was in violation of making a human aware of our presence and it is punishable by death. However, Bella has requested that we not be harmed and since she will be turned that crime could be overlooked."
"We are hoping that The Volturi can be reasoned with and if they aren't we feel that with a hybrid on our side if we were to become physical we would be evenly matched. However, we need to move quickly so they don't catch us off guard," Esme explained and Edward nodded and Leah looked down at her fingers. Leah looked at Edward with worried eyes and he studied her carefully.
"What if Leah didn't fight? What would happen then?" He asked the question without breaking his stare with Leah.
"Without her help ... approaching the Volturi would be suicide," Jasper said bluntly but something was going on. I couldn't put my finger on it. Leah broke the stare with my brother and closed her eyes.
"Well, I will need more training," she muttered quickly.
"Leah!" Edward snapped and Leah shook her head. Leah to the back I assumed to pack. Edward stormed off quickly behind her.
Edward's POV
Leah pulled two duffle bags from our closet and began to whip around and pack but I caught her. The impact of stopping her jostled her. She looked shocked for a moment and then she fell apart in my arms.
"We could tell them?" He said quietly.
"Tell them what? There's nothing to tell Edward!" She snapped. "I will not allow your family to commit suicide. I will fight ... and whatever happens ...happens." She wrapped herself in my arms. She thought about how she didn't think could get pregnant anyway. She may just be going crazy.
"It may not come down to a physical fight. Aro prefers meetings of the mind and fights he really thinks he can win," I reminded her and she nodded against me. As Leah rested against me I heard the faint little sound that was driving her crazy. Thump. Thump. Thump. I tensed for only second. I wanted to tell her I heard it. She wasn't crazy but I feared that knowing that she was caring our baby would only cause her fears to be worse.
"It's going to be okay Baby, I promise," I whispered and Leah nodded but this time I wasn't talking to her. I would make sure they were both safe if it was the last thing I did.
