“Morning, everyone! What’s up?” Adam asked loudly enough for all the pupils surrounding us to be able to hear him.
While most of them got the hint and turned their attention back to their friends, a few were still staring at us.
Cheyenne was one of them. Her face was blank as if she was too shocked by the sight in front of her to process it and react.
A wave of guilt crashed upon me. I immediately let go of Adam’s hand as if it had burnt mine.
When he didn’t react, I looked up at him and saw that he had noticed her too.
The sadness I saw in his eyes broke my heart a little more. His shoulders were slumped, his usual cheerfulness, wiped out.
I just hated seeing him like that so I gently bumped into him with my shoulder to snap him out of this painful staring contest, and whispered, “Come on, let’s go.”
He nodded slightly and followed me.
I stopped by my locker to get my math textbook, and realized that he had followed me.
“Hey, are you ok?” I was getting worried. It wasn’t like him to be so out of it.
“Hmm”, He nodded.
“Adam, it goes both ways, you know.” I looked pointedly at him. “You need to let me in, too.” I raised an eyebrow.
He started playing with his faux hawk, something he did when he was nervous.
“I know, Sam, but the thing is, in that particular matter, there’s not much left to discuss. Cheyenne made it very clear that I needed to move on by lying about coming to the party on Saturday, when she already had a date with someone else…” His jaw was set in a tight line.
“I don’t know... What if I tried to have a word with her?” I asked hesitantly.
“What’s the point?” He looked so down, I just couldn’t let it go.
“Well, if it works, you will no longer look like a lost puppy, for one!” I tried to sound as cheerful as Danny when she used that line.
Adam chuckled at my poor attempt.
“Good thing you chose P.E… Drama is definitely not your thing…” He said with a small smile.
Danny and Josh were waiting for us outside our form room.
“Hey guys!” Danny chirped, “How come you’re so late?”
“We were busy watching Kane and Kelly sucking faces.” I answered bitterly. That proved to be a big mistake.
“We didn’t ask you to look, you perv!” Kelly’s far too sweet voice replied. “Although if you’re that interested, I could probably make a video for you… In case you meet somebody one day… Not that it’s very likely though really, with you being so weird!?”
She had a disgusted look on.
I cringed.
Happy with her intervention, she started giggling and made her way to her form, but not without a “Later, loser!”
Grrrr, she’s such a bitch!
Pacified by my virtual comeback, I noticed that none of my friends had reacted to Kelly’s latest statement.
I looked at them and understood why.
They were all glaring at something which was right behind me. I turned around and saw that the something was in fact, Kane.
