I watched Damon follow Sheriff Forbes before casting a glance around the room. Amelia was nowhere in sight but neither was Klaus and for that reason I was content to stay where I was rather than risk running into him. There wasn't anyone here in the parlor that I recognized but I did notice a small table off to the side with a selection of fruits and several glasses of water. Apparently they weren't keeping the alcohol or main finger foods in here, but it didn't matter I wasn't hungry. However I was thirsty so I made my way over to the table and took a glass of water. I had just taken a few sips when a somewhat familiar voice sounded from behind me.

"Do you not drink anything stronger than that?"

I turned about and found myself facing Kol Michelson. I had to admit that he looked rather suave in his tux but despite his attractiveness, I found his cocky attitude somewhat tiresome. Didn't I already have enough cocky egotistical men to deal with?

"Actually I do just not at the moment." I set my water glass down on the table.

Kol's smile was smug and there was a mischievous glint in his caramel eyes. "We didn't get to formally introduce ourselves when we first met. I'm Kol."

"I'm not interested." I retorted starting to sidestep around him but he quickly blocked my path.

"Are you sure? If we could get to know each other I believe we could get along remarkably well." He gave me a grin that was supposed to simultaneously be sly and meant to charm.

I met his gaze equally. "Doubt it." I again tried to sidestep around him but this time he reached out, his hand grasping my arm.

My gaze swerved to his once more and I glared daggers at him as I pulled my arm out of his grasp. "Would you like to lose that hand?"

Kol gave an amused laugh. "You know who I am yet you still try to threaten me?"

I gave him a wry smile. "Oh I'm not trying to. I am."

"Spirited." Kol's grin widened. "I like a woman who is daring. You and I could get along a lot better than you think."

From behind Kol, I saw Elijah enter the room. He spotted the two of us and headed our way.

"Jessica." Elijah greeted me. "You look enchanting this evening. It is a pleasure to see you again."

I nodded my head. "Thank you Elijah. It's nice to see you again as well."

"And you were not pleased to see me?" Kol asked me with a smirk.

Before I had time to reply, Elijah turned to his brother. "Come. We are to greet our guests now."

"I'll see you again." Kol promised me before he and Elijah left the room together.

Without Kol around to pester me, I could somewhat relax though not entirely. I had yet to see Klaus and I wasn't deluded to think that I could go this whole night without having at least one encounter with him.

"Ladies and Gentlemen. If you would gather around please." Elijah's voice called out from the foyer.

Everyone in the parlor made their way to the foyer, so I followed along. Coming out into the foyer I saw four men and a woman standing on the grand stairs that led to the second floor of the mansion. The stair railings were lined with white lights, as well as the railings for the second floor. Finn stood near the bottom of the stairs and Rebekah stood just a couple stair steps above him, both were leaning against the far side railing. Elijah stood in the middle by the near side of the railing while Kol was further up the stairs standing in the center.
