Jessica
I was still absorbed in my thoughts when I heard the sound of a car coming down the highway, but I didn't pay it any heed until I heard it steadily decrease its speed. The car slowed till it was even with me, so I cast a curious glance over at it and stopped when I saw who it was.
Kol Michelson sat behind the wheel of a polished silver Audi AS Cabriolet with the convertible top down. He had on a red tee shirt with a tan jacket over it and a pair of faded blue jeans. Stopping the car beside me, he pushed his dark sunshades onto the top of his head and shot me a sexy little smile. I hated to admit it, but he looked hot.
"Need a ride gorgeous?" He asked with a meant to charm grin.
"I thought you had already left town." I stated bluntly while mentally trying to shake my head clear of thoughts of how attractive he looked. After all, I already had enough problems with the male species and didn't need anymore.
"Not quite. See...I figured that after a bit of time of trying to deal with my overbearing brother and that overstated Salvatore, you would be prepared to take the first opportunity to view this town in the rearview mirror. So I'm here to offer you that chance." He seemed to act like he thought he was doing me a favor.
I crossed my arms over my chest, my gaze on him unwavering. "What makes you think that?"
He rolled his eyes. "You don't think I'm aware of what's been happening? You are caught between two males who both want to dominate over you when what you really want is to be able to do whatever you please."
"Then why would you think that you are an answer to my problem? I would just be with another male who would try to control me just like the others." I accused, not really taking his offer seriously. I couldn't forget that he was a Michelson and how he also shared the same disease of inflated ego that Klaus and Damon had.
Kol gave a very brief shake of his head. "I won't try to control you. We will be equals. Two Originals, who will do whatever they want and go wherever they want to go. Free from the rules and drama wrapped up in this little insignificant town."
Taking in what he was saying, I found myself considering the possibility. Wasn't he offering me a solution to my current problem? Yes it was only a temporary solution and I would eventually have to find a better way to resolve it, but wouldn't some time away from it all make things better? To be able to momentarily shrug off the burdens of this town? Didn't I deserve time apart from it after all that I had been through so far? I needed and longed to get away from it. I wanted time to come to terms with what I now was and find a way to push past it and enjoy it.
Since Damon didn't want me around Klaus and since I had made a deal with Klaus to not be around Damon, then it would be better to not be around either for a while. It would help prove to them that they could try to control me but would not succeed. I was still going to make my own decisions and live my new immortal life the way I saw fit. Not to say that I wasn't concerned for my friends. I truly was, but maybe by not being there they would be safer. My leaving would undoubtedly cause Klaus to focus searching for me rather than terrorize the people that I cared for.
Kol seemed to sense my resolve against the idea weakening for he flashed another one of those little smiles at me. "You coming gorgeous?"
Making my decision, I uncrossed my arms and opened the passenger door. Sliding inside the car, which in all evidence looked brand new, I turned to him. "Don't make me regret this."
"You won't." He flashed me a charming smile before he slid his sunglasses back down on his face. Throwing the car into drive, he sped down the road increasing our distance from town with each passing second. Reaching out, he turned the radio on and pop music began to blare from the speakers.
Sitting there, watching the passing scenery and darting a glance over at Kol, I wondered if I had made the right decision. Yet with the wind rushing by me, the sun shining its warm rays brightly down on me and the sound of pop music thumping through the speakers, I couldn't help but smile a little. As crazy as it seemed, this was what I needed.
