Together Amelia and I crossed the lot and entered the small Café. A woman, who looked to be about in her mid-thirties, stood behind the cash register and greeted us with a friendly smile as we approached her. After looking over the menu, Amelia and I both told her our food orders then paid for it.

"You can have a seat if you like. It will be about ten to fifteen minutes." The waitress told us.

I gave her an acknowledging nod then cast a sweeping glance about the room. Since it was almost three o'clock, the café wasn't filled with many people so there were several empty tables and booths. Choosing an open booth off to the side, Amelia and I made our way to it and slid in. Sitting there, I glanced about the room noticing the various decorations. There was a flat-screen TV mounted up in one of the corners that was tuned to a news channel. It caught my attention and I started watching it for a moment.

"Are you doing ok?" Amelia asked, drawing my attention to her. She was watching me closely for a reaction. "And don't lie to me because you know that I can tell when you are lying to me."

I couldn't help but give a small smile. "Yeah I know." I sighed. "I won't say that I'm fine but I won't complain either. It could be worse. As much as I want things to be different, I can't change them and everything is building up too much for me to constantly let myself feel stressed and worried about it."

Amelia nodded. "Exactly. Which is why it was good to see you smiling and laughing earlier."

I grinned. "It felt good to laugh. Lately we haven't had many reasons to."

A waitress approached us and set two drinks down in front of us. "Here are the drinks that you ordered."

I thanked her then took a sip of my Dr. Pepper. It was refreshing but there was an odd after taste. "They must be running low on CO2. This Dr. Pepper doesn't taste right." I remarked before taking another couple sips.

"Then why are you still drinking it?" Amelia laughed.

I shrugged. "I'm thirsty. Besides it isn't too bad. Just a little different."

Amelia rolled her eyes and shook her head with an amused smile. Raising her own glass she took her first sip from hers then nodded her head. "Yeah I think you are right. Mine doesn't taste very good either."

She took several more drinks then paused when she saw that I was watching her. I raised my eyebrow teasingly and questioningly.

"I'm thirsty." Amelia laughed then shrugged. "Like you said, it isn't too bad."

From where I was sitting I had clear sight of the front door, so I noticed when Damon entered the café and headed our way.

"Thought you were going to wait in the car." I remarked looking up at him as he came to a stop before the booth.

"After this we will not be stopping for a while, so I'm going to grab a quick bite myself."

Amelia narrowed her eyes at him and when she spoke her tone was low and warning. "I swear Damon if you..."

Damon's cool blue gaze snapped to hers. "Chill little witch. I am not planning on draining them dry. Can't afford to leave a body count."
