Hands on the steering wheel at the 'correct' positions ten and two, the windows rolled down and my hair whipping about wildly in the cool night breeze, I caught sight of a large sign that said 'Welcome to Mystic Falls, Virginia' when it was illuminated for a brief moment by the headlights of my car. I wasn't the only one who noticed it as we flew past, speeding down the highway towards the lights of the small rural town up ahead. Amelia turned to look at me after having read it. The expression on her fair skin, that was dotted with a few freckles, was one of dubiousness.

"Remind me again why we are coming here?"

I glanced over at her in the passenger seat giving her a mildly exasperated look, before re-directing my attention back to the road. "Oh come on Amelia. Don't act like you didn't help come up with this solution. We are tired of constantly being on the move aren't we?"

"Yes but now that we are actually here I'm wondering if we really should have come." Amelia reached up and pushed some strawberry strands of her wildly blowing hair away from her face as she looked out her passenger side window at the beginnings of the picturesque town. "After all this is a huge risk we are taking."

I tossed my head sending errant brunette strands of my own hair out of my face and reduced the speed of my midnight blue Dodge Charger down to the town's speed limit which continuously lowered as we got closer to the heart of the town. "It is but I'm tired of it all and if things go well then we won't have to be here long. It's either continue being on the move for who knows how long or take this risk to try to help get rid of the reason why we've been on the run."

Reaching downtown, I scanned the small dark park in the center of the square then the buildings surrounding it. The street lampposts were, for the most part, the only source of light because, due to it being nighttime, the majority of the buildings and stores were closed. Most of the buildings were older and had an eighteen hundreds style, with only a few modern changes as remodels and patch ups were made on the buildings as the years had passed. It wasn't hard to spot the one building that I was looking for. It was the only building completely lit up, the interior light streamed out of its windows. Plus the large floodlit sign on the front reading 'Mystic Grill' clearly identified it.

"There it is." I found a parking spot and after having pulled in, I killed the engine. I didn't move at first, just sat there trying to prepare myself for this. I knew that from here on out things could become very difficult and our lives were going to more than likely change from this point on.

Yes our lives had already changed when we had learned of the prophecy but it was fixing to change even more since we were fixing to act against it instead of evade it.

Amelia looked to me and gave me a warm, encouraging smile. "Ready for this?"

I took a calming, steadying breath, nodded and gave her a small smile feeling confident and positive now. "Yup."

I opened my driver's side door and slid out of the car. Amelia got out as well but stayed where she was.

"I will wait for you here. You got five minutes before I come in to check on you." Amelia moved away from the car and headed for a nearby bench along the sidewalk that ran in front of the parked car. It wasn't a well-lit area. The closest street lamp was a little ways away from it, but I was sure that was why she picked that spot as a place to wait for me. She would be less likely to be noticed.

Turning away, I strode across the street to the Mystic Grill. The heels of my western boots hitting the pavement slightly echoed in the otherwise fairly quiet night. The only other sounds were distant car traffic and the muffled noise coming from within the bar and grill. Reaching the door, I paused outside of it to straighten my shorts, adjust my halter top and run a hand through my loose hair before I grasped the handle, pulled it open and stepped inside.
