"You're what?" you asked in disbelief.
"I'm sorry," your boyfriend, Steve, apologized. He had just told you that he was being drafted into the Navy, and he would be leaving in three days.
You shook yourself out of the grief trying to take you over. You looked at him with a serious face. "No. You do what you have to. I have faith that you will do your best and then come home to me, safe and sound, but we will make the most of the next couple days."
The next day, you packed a picnic basket and a blanket. You had Steve meet you at the lot.
"JP, what is this?" he asked, confusedly, as you spread out the blanket.
"A picnic, duh," you replied, smiling at his expression, that thoroughly said he was just done with you (I couldn't think of how to say it any other way).
"No! Really?" he said, sarcastically, trying to suppress a smile himself. "But why?"
"Because, we won't be able to do stuff like this when you leave, so I figured now is as good a time as any, if not better." You started to pull the food out of the basket. "Plus, the weather's nice."
You two ate and played around a little, like climbing trees and stuff, before settling back on the blanket, cuddling in each other's arms.
"Man, I'm sure gonna miss you," Steve whispered.
You looked up at him. "Hey, don't think about it. We have a whole other day together ahead of us. It's gonna be fine, okay?" You kissed his cheek.
He smiled sweetly down at you. "You're right."
"Of course I am," you joked. You both laughed, lightly.
You two spent hours just sitting there talking, and even though mother of you mentioned it, you both knew that nothing would be the same after he left. You both knew things would change, but you could only hope that they'd change for the better.
Woo! Another update (and request) down! And in the same hour. I am on it, doggone it!
Anyway, sorry for the weirdness. I hope you liked it! M'kay.
