"Dad, I'm home!"
Walking into the living room, I set my keys on the kitchen counter and plop down on the white leather couch. He appears from his bedroom "hey Emily, how was shopping with Lexi?"

"Good, we went to Dillard's again. Had dinner at Little Tokyo, and had some Starbucks," I smile. He rolls his eyes "sounds like fun, y'all shopped for homecoming dresses right?"
I nod "yeah, I bought this dress," as I show him the navy blue dress. Examining it, he shrugs "it's cute, how much?"
Taking a deep breath, I sigh and try not to laugh "it was cheap.. $89."

He raises an eyebrow "okay, any shoes?"
Gulping, I nod and pull out a blue bag and get one of the black shoes out, "$236."
Wincing, he sighs "so much money." I nod and roll my neck "anyways, I'm just going to go with a group of friends, since y'all don't want me to ask this guy."
Rolling my eyes, I grab my stuff and walk to my room. Hanging up my dress, I jump on my bed and close my eyes.

Kaden's POV

The dashing but young prince rides through the streets of his subjects. Two guards surround him and his uncle is beside him. The click-click of the hooves could be heard down the cracked cobblestone streets.
"Murderer!" A young child shouts and throws a tomato at the prince. The uncle sees it flying and blocks it with his shield. The people clutter around and hit the prince trying to knock him off his horse. Kaden kicks one of them with his knee length brown boot. The women falls against the pavement as they continue guiding their horses through the giant crowd.

"Your highness, should we head back to the castle? It's not safe here," the uncle implies.
Kaden only grins "I can control my own people uncle."
A grown man throws a rock this time as it hits the princes foot as a chatter of voices could be heard "Damaris! King Damaris!"
The procession comes to a halt as Kaden gets off his horse and shouts to the people "who dare try to strike me!" Nobody says anything as the man runs away. Kaden's sapphire eyes catch this as he shouts "guards, after him!"

Getting through the crowd of people, the guards finally catch him and bring the struggling man to the prince. Hatred in his eyes, the man spits on the ground as the prince grabs the hilt of his sword "why would you hit your king?"
The man shows his rotten teeth "you're not king! The true king is Damaris. Long live-"
Revealing his sword, the young prince touches the mans chest with the tip of his sword.
Through clenched teeth, Kaden huffs "say that again, I dare you."
The man bows his head mockingly "with pleasure."
Opening his mouth to speak, Kaden injects the sword into his chest and quickly pulls it back out. Blood on his sword, he wipes it off with his shirt and puts it back in the holder.
A women runs up to the man and cries "that was my husband!"

Kaden looks at the women and smirks "well now you can get a new husband," he winks.
The women screams "I hate you!" As the prince gets back on his horse.
He clears his throat "anybody else who defies my name shall end up like this man!" Turning his black horse around, he gallops back to the castle followed by his royal court.
Safely inside the gates, Kaden stops and gets off his horse handing it to the stable boy. The prince places his hands behind his back as he makes his way toward the gardens.
"Your grace!"
Kaden keeps walking as his uncle walks beside him. "Yes uncle?"
"You do realize your birthday is in a week, and I was thinking a masked ball would do," the uncle smiles.
Kaden chuckles "a masked ball? I'm turning 19 uncle, not 13."
Rolling his eyes, the uncle holds open the door for the prince as Kaden struts in "tell your guards that whoever says the dead kings name again.. have them killed."
The uncle bows and sighs "of course your highness."
