Emily's POV
Watching my parents eyes go wide, I humbly nod, "I'm sorry I couldn't stop him. At first, I didn't know who he was. He has the crown now, mom. I want to reclaim my place as Queen soon, when the time is right."

Back at the castle, Kaden was getting along just fine. Wearing his crown, he glances down at the commoner with concern.
He chuckles, "I should just give you to Jefferson, he'll be dying for that."
The commoners leg shakes as a wicked grin appears on the Kings face.
Kaden looks at his nails and sighs, "you broke one of my commandments, you know that's a crime."
The man nods fast as he tries to say something but can't.
The Kings bright blue eyes blink in his direction, "You're lucky I'm in a good mood. You are free to go."
With a wave of his hand, the man hurries along as Jefferson bares his sharp teeth for an instant. As the giant doors close behind him, Jefferson squeaks "this "good mood," doesn't have anything to do with Emily being gone, does it?"
Kaden places his crown beside the throne and walks down, "How did you know, my friend?"
Jefferson rolls his eyes, "just a guess."
As Kaden makes his way toward his assassin, he runs a hand through his hair as he exhales. Jefferson asks, "do you miss her?"
"To be honest J, I don't know what I feel anymore," as he pats his friends shoulder.

The doctor comes in the next morning and checks my pulse. Writing stuff down on his little chart, he yawns, "I really should get paid more for this."
Replacing my IV bag, he heads out the door as Gavin's arm wraps around my chest. Being in the bed with me, he whispers "get better soon, Em. I need you to be strong for me, okay?"
Eyes still closed and not responding, a tear falls down Gavin's face "I will."
Hearing a knock at the door, Gavin's head turns as Kaden enters. Getting out of bed, Gavin fixes his clothes as Kaden asks,
"How is she?"
Gavin brushes my hair back "How do you think she is, hmm?"
He chuckles and caresses my cheek gently, "not well."
"The doctor said that she'll wake up when she feels like it, that is, if she wakes up at all," as Gavin yawns.
Kaden notices and crosses his legs, "get some rest. I'll watch her for you."
Gavin looks at Kaden with suspicion, then nods "Thanks. I appreciate it." He stretches, kisses my forehead and heads for the door. Pausing, he asks, "do you know what happened to her?"
Kaden just shrugs "how should I know."
Gavin shrugs and exits the door.

Kaden reaches out to touch my arm and puts his head down. "I'm so sorry Emily, all I wanted to do was to scare you," as he chuckles.
His blue eyes fill with tears as he squeezes my hand. Wiping them away with his elbow, he adds "I just want you to know that no matter what, I'll still love you. Even though you're in a coma or whatever..." Trailing off, Kaden looks out the window and sees the beauty of the little village.
"I don't think I could live with myself if something terrible happened to you. To make you feel better, I'll let you have my crown for a day....when you wake up. Would you like that?"
Not responding, he nods "I understand your position, but I would like you to accept. This kingdom isn't structured right. But since you're Damaris's daughter, I figured "hey, why not."

"Mom, say something," I plead as I fold my hands in my lap.
"I- I don't know what to say Emily."
Hair flowing to glance at my dad, he shakes his head "you should've known honey. You must take back what's rightfully ours."
Nodding, I sniff and lick my lips, "I want to, but Kaden-"
"He's not your problem, don't worry about him. Just focus on what you have to do, stop being afraid of things that might break you in the end," Elena's blue eyes sparkle.

Exhaling, my mother speaks "Come here, I want to show you something."
Groaning, I get up and walk over as she places her hands on my shoulders. Looking in the mirror, I shrug "what am I supposed to be looking at exactly?"
Elenas face lights up and gives me a little shake, "Look at you, you're gorgeous. You are a strong, beautiful, confident woman. You're going to make an excellent Queen for our people."
Damaris walks over as well and kisses his wife's cheek, "Sweetheart, she already knows this. Besides, Emily is 23, she can do what she wants."
Clearing my throat, I smile "thanks dad. It's gonna take me awhile to figure it all out though."
He nods "so...this Kaden guy, you're telling me that he stabbed you?"
Shaking my head, I blink my green eyes, "No. I believe he sent Jefferson to finish out the deed. But, Jefferson isn't the killing type, dad."
"Who's Jefferson?" My father and mother ask.
Giggling at the mention of him, I respond "he's Kadens minion, I guess."
My mother raises an eyebrow and nods, "Ok then, whatever you say."
