Kadens POV
"Why do things have to be so complicated all the time?"
My uncles eyes meet mine, "that's a perfect way to enter a room," as he rolls his eyes.
I huff and lightly kick the wall, "it's not fair! Jefferson!"
Walking back from Emily's room, Jefferson hears my cry and races toward it, "what is it this time?"
My eyes look out the window at the village below, "I'm sending you on a..."
Now he seems excited, "Mission? Adventure? Do I get to kill something again?"
I flick my hand to the side, like I'm brushing away air, "a quest."
"Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!" Bouncing up and down, he claps his hands to his cheeks and smiles proudly "I've never been on one of those before. Who am I ending?!"
Whispering the name in his ear, he gulps "but, why?"
Crossing his arms, I respond harshly "I'm the King and I said so, that's why. Now go...before I change my mind."

Emily's POV
Hearing my feet thunk on the stone pathway, I enter the garden and hear the faint sound of my breathing. I belong with him, I know that for sure. He's just too stubborn and careless to realize it.
Thinking things through in my head was the only way of not making a total fool of myself, like I have already. Looking up at the stars above, I sigh softly and whisper "at least you don't have anything to worry about."
"Actually, they do," a voice says behind me.
Turning my body around to face him, I rub my arms "what are you doing out here, Jefferson. It's midnight."
Yawning, "I thought you could use some company after what happened," as he steps forward. I let him approach and he looks up at the dark, endless sky. "The stars are beautiful this time of night."
Running a hand through my brown hair, "They are, but how can one little thing do so much?"
Cracking his shoulders, he meets my gaze "sometimes, we don't realize what we want, until we actually get it."

"Do you even know what you're saying right now?"
He laughs lightly, "Nope. Is it helping?"
Just to make him feel better, I simply nod "Thanks big J. I needed to hear that."
"Welcome, I can check that off as my one random act of kindness now."
Laughing, I nudge him as he smiles. Getting all serious, he breathes in "can I confess something?"
Looking at him, "of course," he exhales "promise you can keep a secret."
Crossing my heart I promise, he slashes across my chest and down my arm. My screams were unexpected as Jefferson finishes. Hearing his feet run back inside, I think that coward, come and face me like a man.
Walking toward the gate, I look down at my faintly soaked white and blue dress. Black dots parade my field of vision as my hands shake to unlock the device that was keeping me prisoner.

Collapsing on the grass, the last thing I see is the abundance of stars twinkling up above.
