Emily's POV
Admiring the night sky, I cough and glance at Gavin through my peripheral vision. Looking at the sky, Gavin gives me a tiny smile as I look away. Glad that my legs were working again, I was able cross the room and sit down in a chair.
"You know," I speak "everything is so peaceful at night. If only it were the case during the day."
Gavin simply nods, "I wish it would. But, we have to deal with noise and chaos, it's apart of life."
Knowing this to be true, Gavin intertwines his hand with mine "If I may ask, why haven't you de-throned Kaden yet?"
Exhaling, I shake my hair back "you're starting to sound like my father."
"Psh, whatever," Gavin grins.
"I plan on meeting with him soon, when I have my strength back again."
Gavin pulls me toward him," you slept for 4 weeks, Em. I think you have enough strength already."
I blush "Oh, my bad."
"It's alright," he yawns.
Making a face, I ask "Is someone tired?"
Shrugging, he sniffs as I kiss his cheek "get some rest, okay? I'll be fine."
Meeting his eyes, I smile "for me?"
Hesitant, he gives in and smiles back "Thanks Emily. You're a good person." Walking past me, his hand reaches for the door.
"Gavin."
Hearing his name, he turns his head around as my lips meet his. Pausing, he lets go of the door handle and holds my waist. My arms wrap around his back, "I love you."
Pressing my back to the wall, Gavin cups my chin and kisses me, "I love you too."Moving my hands down his arms, he presses me to him and kisses my neck gently. Putting his hand on my side, he smiles and trails tiny kisses along my throat. Biting my lip for a second, my hand caresses his cheek. Holding my hand, he hisses "you're freezing, Em."
"I know. Welcome to my life."
Grabbing the back of his neck, I bring his face to meet mine. Lips merging, he makes a knot with my hair and nibbles my ear. Softly making a noise, his hand travels down my side and rests on my hip.***
Kaden's POV
With the servants cleaning up dinner, I wipe my mouth "another delightful meal. Wouldn't you say so, Uncle?"
Meeting my uncles gaze, he sips his wine "It was."
Jeffersons eyes blink as he chews his unfinished meal "I love it."
Speaking in a monotone voice, my uncle asks "Okay Kaden, what's going on?"
Chuckling, I swish the wine in my glass "Emily's not dead."
Raising an eyebrow, my uncle demands, "kill her again."
Breaking to the point of hysteria, I respond "it's not that easy, uncle. I killed her, she should be dead."
Jefferson cuts in, "Can we not talk about this, Your Majesty?"
Eyeing the squirrel carefully, I sip my drink and set it down carefully "Why not, hm?"
All eyes were on the talking squirrel as he gulps down a sip "Emily did nothing to you, why be so mean to her?"My voice tries it's best to stay calm, "Who's side are you on, Jefferson."
"Excuse me," as Jefferson gets up from the table.
Walking towards the giant doors, my uncle grabs his arm "You're not finished with your meal. Sit down."
He squeaks, "I lost my appetite."
Growling low in his throat, my uncle lets the squirrel go as he walks down the hallway.
Kaden exhales, lifts himself up "I'll talk to him, uncle. Don't worry."Storming into the training room, Kaden yells "Squirrel !"
Removing his sword from his waist, he plunges the sword into the dummy with hatred in his eyes.
Jefferson comes out slowly from the corner "are you mad?"
"No. Why would I be mad?" I try my best to contain myself. Exhaling, I run my fingers though my hair and yawn, "Get some sleep. I'll need you in the morning."
Raising an eyebrow, Jefferson asks "what for?"
I shrug, "Reasons that I don't want to tell you."
Jefferson curls a hand into a fist and mumbles, "Of course. I remain your obedient servant, after all." Watching Jefferson exit the door, I just lose it. Screaming, I kick the dummy and it goes flying. Putting my hands to my face, I sniff "Emily."Emily's POV
Wrapping my hands around Gavin's back, I peck his cheek and smile "that was nice."
His fingers play with my tangled hair "Now might be the wrong time to say this, but, I like you." Gavin yawns.
Turning my head sideways to see him further, my hand traces circles on his bare chest "I like you too." Shivering, I snuggle up to him and hold onto his muscular arm like a child. Gavin laughs and taps my nose "you're so weird, you know that?"
Shrugging, I roll my eyes "I know I'm weird. Can I ask you something?"
"Anything."
"Have you ever been out on a date?" I ask.
Lifting his eyebrows, he thinks back "I don't think so. Unless you count me watching over you, then no," he chuckles.
"Wouldn't you like to have the experience of a first date?"
Shrugging, he asks "would you?"
"This isn't about me. It's about you"
"I guess so," Gavin scratches his neck awkwardly. He smiles to himself as I close my eyes. "Gavin?"
"Mhmm?"
Softly speaking, "what are you afraid of?" He squeezes my side "Not being with you. But, mostly dying."
Nodding, he asks me the same question. Responding "clowns," he snickers, "they aren't that scary, Em."
"They're freaky, ok."
"Uh-huh, alright. One day, I'm gonna take you to a circus."
Propping my elbow up, my green eyes go wide "No."
Seeing my reaction, he kisses my lips. "I was only joking, why would I do that?"
Staring at him innocently, I shrug my shoulders "cause you're mean."
Partly offended, he chuckles "I'm not mean. You are."
"How am I mean?"
"You're mean on so many levels." With me laughing, he adds "I've never met a meaner person."
Holding the sheet to my chest, I ask "did the doctor say when I can be released?"
"Not that I know of, sorry."
Hair spread out on the pillow, I hear a knock.
Pushing Gavin with all my strength, he rolls to the floor. "Meanie," he teases.
"Sorry dude, get under the bed."
The door opens as Gavin rolls under. Making sure I'm covered up well, the doctor nods "Good morning Emily. I take it you feel better?"
"Much. Thank you."
He checks his clipboard "Just came to tell you that you can check out anytime."
Smiling under the bed, Gavin stays quiet as I speak "Thanks doc."
The doctor exits the door as I mumble "this isn't a hotel, geez."
Gavin rolls out from under the bed "I heard the news. That's great!"
"It is. I can't wait to see the look on Kaden's face when I return."
Gavin presses a palm to the floor, "he'll be shocked, I assume."
