Kaden's POV
Slamming a fist onto the wooden table, I yell, "Gone!"
Two of the guards flinched but one spoke out, "she got away, your grace. We tried to stop her."
"You tried?!"
"We would've caught her, but someone helped her escape."
I fold my hands behind my back and pace back and forth "who helped her."
None of them speak until my uncle crosses the room, "find out who helped her and they shall be dealt with accordingly," he blinks.
Jefferson manages a slight laugh and bites his lip as the guards look straight ahead. I huff and run a hand through my messed up hair, "if one of you confess, your punishment will be less..severe. You have until dawn, now go."Looking out the window, I rub my chin and think maybe I was hard on Emily, but my parents expect me to kill her. God, I miss her.
My uncle walks up next to me, "I know this is shocking to you, but Emily Cordova needs to be eliminated once and for all."
My face shows no emotion whatsoever, as a few raindrops hit the window. "I get that uncle. But, I can't kill someone I love."
He scratches his beard and sighs, "I killed my sister out of love."
Turning my head to better hear him, I lick my lips "what?"
"I loved my sister once, but she never knew that." He chuckles and pushes a strand of gray hair back "the point is nephew, don't let your heart get the best of you. You were born and raised a Gardel, and Gardel men do what they want, no matter the cost."The rain falls heavily, "where do you think she went?"
I shrug, "wherever she is, I just hope she's safe."
Thunder rumbles as the doors open and Jefferson walks in, "I did it."
I smile and turn to face my assassin, "my most trusted and loyal friend, what did you do?"
He blurts out, "I'm the one who helped Emily escape," then shuts his mouth. My smile fades as I walk toward him and grab his arm, "thank you Jefferson, really." Snapping my fingers, two guards appear and hold his arms behind his back, "will you answer me this squirrel?"
Quick as a flash, he heaves as my fist connects with his stomach. I growl softly, "where did she go."
He gasps and catches air, "I-I promised her that I wouldn't tell."
Getting out my sharp dagger, I point the blade at his stomach, "tell me where she is and this can all be over," I demand.
"What's starting?"
I dig the knife deeper into his stomach as he hisses, "you wouldn't dare."
I click my tongue and drag my dagger up and up as thick, warm blood oozes out of his body. He screams, "the last place I took her was the village!"
I stop the cutting and look at Jefferson dead in the eyes, "See, now was that so hard."
The guards release his arms as I slip my dagger into my boot, "I want you to go to the village and bring her back." Brushing the hair from my eyes, Jefferson touches the wounds and his finger comes back bloody."Ok, I've had enough of this."
I raise an eyebrow "explain."
Jefferson removes his hand and walks up to me, until my neck hurts from staring at him. His beady black eyes lock with mine as he growls, "enough of you."
I suddenly burst out laughing, "you're joking, right?"
He doesn't move as I gulp "oh, not joking."
"For the past 14 years, I've had to deal with all your crap, well not anymore. I quit," as he turns around and storms out.
"Quit! You belong to me, you can't quit!"
Walking out into the hallway, he throws up a hand and makes a peace sign, "I'm going on strike. Peace."
The rain pours down hard and thunder cracks as my facial expression turns to confusion, "what?"Emily's POV
I could hear the pitter-patter of rain as it hits the cobblestone street. Barefoot and my dress torn, I walk through the empty town and sniff, "I'm the true Queen of Castor, remember that," I mumble to myself. My foot splashes in a puddle as I smile and jump into it. Laughing a little, I twirl and suddenly stop when I hear horses hooves in the distance.
"Shit!"
I run toward a building and go in an alleyway. Sticking to the side as to not get seen, I close my eyes and steady my breathing.
The horses stop and I hear voices, "she couldn't have gotten far."
"Maybe she's already dead, lets just go. She'll appear to me one way or another."
I recognize his voice and the horses trot away. Sighing, I creep up to watch them leave when the man looks back at me and starts to open his mouth. His sapphire eyes express nothing as he closes his mouth and trots away.
I turn back around and look up at the cloudy sky. My tears feel like raindrops as I wipe them away and continue down the alley."I can't believe I loved that monster."
"What did you call me?"
I gasp as I make out the black cloak, brown riding boots and golden brown hair. "Kaden, I-"
He appears in the fading moonlight and places his hand on his boot. Walking behind me slowly, he grabs his short, silver blade and smiles "you know that I still love you, right?"
He places his mighty hand on my waist and pushes me against his muscular body. I bite my lip to keep myself from making a big mistake, "I know that. I love you too, but I can't love someone who wants to kill me."
I feel his wet lips brush the tender skin above my neck and shiver, "if you dare try and kill me, I will make you bleed."
He chuckles, looks back toward the castle and spins me around. Grabbing my arm, I wince in pain as he digs his fingers in hard, "you don't seem to realize, I'll get you in the end."
My eyes long for this man standing in front of me as I lick my lips, "Kaden, please. Don't do this."
He fights the urge to punch me and traces the dagger across my wrist. Seeing thick, red blood appear, he kisses the wound and looks at me, "so I can find you when I need you."
I breathe slightly and kiss his lips with everything I have. He wraps his arms around me, hoists me up and our foreheads meet. We both smile as I tap his nose "you'll always be my hero, even if you've lost your mind."He squeezes my ass and smirks, "you and I are a pair to be feared Em."
His bloody lips meet mine as I envelop my hands in his hair. Pushing me against a wall, I gasp and speak softly, " I think that you're not as dark as you want people to believe."
He grins and the rain makes his eyes glow like sapphires, "don't ever get inside my head, it's too dark for you."
He kisses slowly across my neck as I moan and mumble his name. He tears the hem of my dress and mumbles, "I'm not supposed to be doing this," as he places me back down and walks away.
