Kaden's POV
Tapping my fingers on my knee, I await her arrival and glare at my uncle. "She'd never do anything like this, not while I'm alive."
He folds his arms behind his back "look who's talking."
I huff as the big doors open "don't get snippy with me." Two guards walk in with a struggling, yet beautiful brunette. I straighten in my seat and clear my throat as one of the guards throw her to her knees, "kneel before your king."
I look down at how small and vulnerable she is and fight the urge. Out of the corner of my eye, my uncle maintains his hand on the hilt of his sword, ready to fight if need be. Emily tries to stand up but a guard spits at her, "I said kneel, you whore." A couple tears fall down her cheek as she sniffs, "Kaden, why am I here?"
My uncle glares at Emily "you will address him as Your Majesty. And you should know why you are here."
"Actually, I don't know. Do tell me," as she looks at my uncle.
I clear my throat and crack my knuckles, "hello darling. Such a shame you're not who you say you are."
She gulps, "stop saying I'm this Cordova person, I'm not her!"
"I'm not going to believe any more of your lies. Don't deny your true heritage."
Her face turns red as she huffs "Fine! What if I am her, what will you do."
"Oh sweetheart, you know what I have to do," as I make a sliding motion across my throat.
She stands up and stands tall, " kill me if you must, but I shall not bow to a king who wears a crown studded with jewels of every life he has ended."
I slowly rise, "oh, that's cute. Did you rehearse that," I say sarcastically.
She backs up into a guards arm, "I loved you. What ever happened to that?"
I take off my crown and gently set it aside, "I lied about many things Emily, but I never lied about loving you."Walking down the dais, I look at the one I love standing across from me as I grab both her cheeks, "I still love you, never forget that."
Without warning, I press my lips on hers and close my eyes. She smiles and kisses me back, "I love you too, but you're a monster. You have no heart."
I run my fingers through my brown hair and look at her with compassion "it's hard to have a heart, when you've stopped so many others."
She gulps as my uncle gets annoyed, "Emily Cordova, daughter of the dead King Damaris, I hereby sentence you to die."
Emily looks at me with those full, green eyes and says "don't do this Your Majesty. I should be Queen, it's what my father would've wanted."
I grin, "sometimes, you don't get what you want." Mumbling to the guards, "take her away," she punches a guard in the face and runs out the door. I shake my head and yell "I will find you, and I will kill you."
My uncle beside me, he doesn't look happy as he addresses the guards to go after her.Emily's POV
I didn't know where I was going, I just knew that I had to get out of this castle. I trip on the fabric of my dress and fall. Kicking off my shoes, I mumble "screw this," and pick up the edges of my dress. Hearing the sound of footsteps behind me, I turn a corner when someone grabs my arm.
"Jefferson, what now?!"
He presses a finger to his lips as he opens a secret door. "I'm getting you out of here," he says in his squeaky voice.
I roll my eyes, "my hero."
He pulls me to the stairs and is about to shut the door when I turn around to face him, "Wait! Where does it lead?"
He grumbles, walks in and closes the door, "just follow me."
Grabbing a torch, he guides me down the stone staircase when I faintly scream.
He whips his head around, "Emily! What is it?"
I point my finger down a few steps as it scurries away. Jefferson sighs "it's just a rat, nothing more." Grabbing my arm, he leads me down and down, until our feet touch water.
"Where are we exactly?"
"Sewers. You wanted a safe way, there you go."
"But won't they find us here?"
I could hear his feet splashing as he walked, "No. No one ever comes down here."
I shrug, pick my dress and follow him. The green, mucky water submerges my feet as I touch my necklace. It glows a little and I smile, "come over here," Jefferson demands.
Walking toward him, he points up, "the village is just above. Remember, you are the lost Queen of Castor. I'll deal with his imperial majesty."
I remain strong and Jefferson bows to me, "it's been an honor, Your Majesty."
"Thank you for everything, Big J."
Kissing his cheek, I climb the ladder and use my strength to exit the sewer. Jefferson blushes and walks back to the castle as I make it to the streets and look around. Where do I go now? I wonder.
