Kaden's POV
The letter arrived two days later. Getting out my letter opener, I unseal and read the note.
A few seconds later, I toss the letter aside and bury my face in my hands. Sitting on the bed, I sigh and look out the window.
"If they won't help me, I'll have to find her myself." Grabbing my sword, I strap it to my belt and walk out the door. Telling only my uncle where I was going, he smiles "go end her."
Grabbing my cloak, the guards push open the giant doors and raise the gate. Walking out, the wind hits my face and ruffles my cloak a little. Looking back at the castle, I enter the city streets and hope for a glance at my true love.Emily's POV
Ducking behind a trash bin, I watch my mysterious savior open the door. I sigh and decide to follow him into the pub. Avoiding the people walking about, I quickly hurry into the pub and find myself shocked. I see a couple waitresses filling mugs and see tables scattered about. Glancing around, I decide to get a closer look and keep wandering further.
I take a seat at one the tables, "I thought I might find you here."
The savior grumbles "I told you not to follow me. Do we need to set up rules?" Looking at me with those turquoise eyes again, I hide my blush and quickly say no.
A waitress asks me if I would like anything and I say no, thank you.
He clears his throat, "if you get caught here, I'll have to rescue your sorry ass again."
I chuckle, "I am the girl worth saving, after all."The man drains his drink and I say, "tell me about yourself."
He scratches his chin "My father was a farmer, my mother was a servant and I was raised in Castor. Both my parents were poor, and they couldn't afford to feed their son or get a proper education. So I just raised myself to be the gentlemen I am today," as he wipes his mouth.
I raise an eyebrow "looks like it's paid off. Anything else I should know about?"Shrugging, I thump my finger on the edge of the table " you have yet to tell me your name."
The waitress brings another mug of ale as the man drinks it, "that's confiscated. Tell me about you."
He leans back in the chair and takes a sip as I twist my hair around my finger, "you don't want to here that."
He grins, "oh, but I do."
"Well, I never knew my parents. I was raised in a small town of Louisville, then I came here and found out that I'm royalty."
He raises his eyebrows, "you're Emily Cordova?!"
I nod, "the one and only."
"So how come the King is looking for you?"
I hold in a breath, "that's not for me to say, but I will tell you-"
The door bangs open and a man in a black cloak walks in. A guard waits outside as the stranger clears his throat, "I require a table."Kaden's POV
The waitress nods and seats me at a table by these two lovebirds.
"Honestly, I want to go home," I hear her whisper.
The man chuckles, "honestly, I want to go to the moon. It ain't happening, sweetheart. Time to accept that."
The woman brushes her chocolate brown hair back, "But, I can't leave my kingdom in the hands of.." She faintly whispers "these people."
The man across from her finishes the last of his glass and sniffs, "well, you have two options then Emily."
She sighs, "I suppose I do."
I drink my ale and lick my lips, I didn't know she was here, that must be the man she's with.
It's time to act.The man excuses himself and goes to the bathroom. I take my chance and slide into the seat across from Emily. She hums a tune, "can I help you?"
I grin and my sapphire eyes peak out from under my hood, "I'm looking for someone in particular, perhaps you might know her."
She brushes her hair back and adjusts her pants, "who are you looking for?"
Brushing my hood back, her green eyes scan me up and down with disgust, "Gardel."
He smirks "Cordova."
She glances around, "how did you find me?"
I shrug and finish my ale, "It was simple. I just walked in and saw you."
She chuckles, "you know what I mean. I left the castle to escape from you!"
I rub my cheek, "I know. But fate has brought us back together, I guess."
She rolls her eyes and gets up, "I don't believe in fate. Better yet, I don't believe in you, so goodbye."
Emily spins around as the man comes back "what's going on here?"
I stand up and take Emily's arm, "come with me Emily. I still care about you."
The man looks at me, then Kaden, "Your Majesty, unhand her. She's with me."
I ignore him and we walk to the door. Emily glances back at the man and sighs a little. I turn the door handle and hurry her out. The man grabs my arm, spins me around and punches my face. I brace for impact and stumble backwards as Emily chuckles and rolls her eyes, "men these days."Emily's POV
Kaden touches his lip and sees blood. He closes his eyes as his guards move into the building. The man backs up and shakes his hand as Kaden turns back around and nails his cheek. The man looks at me and spits out blood "Emily."
I look at my injured King and gulp, "I can't believe you would do this." Suddenly, Kaden looks at me, the blood running from his nose "Em, I-"
"Don't Em me. This is your mess, now fix it!"
The man chuckles a little and rubs his cheek, "you got balls girl, I'll give you that."
I continue to look at Kaden "meet me outside..now." Exiting the pub, I wait in the evening sun and run my fingers down my hair."You wanted to talk?"
My eyes lock with his sapphire ones, "Why would you do something like this?"
He wets his lips quickly, "I just wanted to make sure you were safe. And it kills me to see you with that guy."
I cross my arms, "are you kidding me right now? You don't need to worry about me, I'm fine without you."
"I know that. I know my uncles plan and he wants me to finish the order, but-" He brushes back a strand of my hair, "I just can't do it."
A small smile appears on my face, "and why's that?"
His lips form a thin line "because I love you."
My heart begins to thump in my chest and I gulp, "we had the right kind of love at the wrong time."
I step closer and touch his neck, "I love you too, but I like this other guy," I tease him.
He intertwines our fingers, "don't be like that."
Leaning in, I kiss him gently and pull back. "It's been so long since I've done that," I chuckle. He kisses me back, "from the first time I saw you at the ball, I knew that things would change."
He envelops me in a deep kiss and I breathe in between, "Things have changed though."
Kaden winks at me and I blush "what are we going to tell your uncle though?"
He shrugs "I'll think of something. But for now, we have some unfinished business."
I giggle and peck his cheek, "Later, okay?"
He exhales, "Fine. But you owe me, Cordova."Running into the pub, I find my savior flipping his switchblade in and out. Leaning in the doorway, I chuckle, "you did good back there, I'm proud of you."
"Why didn't you tell me he wanted to kill you?"
I sniff a little, "Because I'm the last rightful ruler of this kingdom, and because Terrasen and Castor have been at war for centuries."
He clicks his blade shut and walks up to me, "I won't let anything hurt you Your Majesty, you're in my protection now."
My eyes show a sign of gratitude as I clear my throat "I'm glad I met you."
His lips form a thin line, "and I you."
I notice his cheek and brush my hand over it, "you're hurt."
He touches my hand "nothing I can't handle."
He walks away as I grab his hand quickly, "at least let me look at it."
He hesitates but takes a seat. Getting out ointment and bandages, I dab the cotton into the ointment and apply pressure. He hisses, "don't touch me."
"Oh calm down, I'm saving your life you jackass."
He chuckles, "I wouldn't call this "saving your life," it's just a scratch."
Rolling my eyes, I continue to work on his cheek, "I guess we're even now."
He sighs and blows his brown hair out of his face, "whatever you say."
