Emily's POV
"Gavin, are you sure about this?" Placing a hand on his side, he exhales "He won't stop, Em. Plus, your people deserve a better ruler then that."
"They do, don't they. And the throne is mine by right," I speak as Gavin kisses my hand.
Exhaling, he rolls his eyes and mumbles "I meant marriage, idiot."
Looking into those hazel eyes, I softly gulp, "You don't mean that, do you?"
He looks back into my green eyes, "With all my heart...yes."
"You think that will stop him?"
Shrugging, he speaks "You die, I die."
Faintly blushing, I smile "Well, we are in love."
Placing his hands on my waist, he asks "You sure about that?"
Pretending to be offended, I back up a step as he laughs, "Come here."
Pulling my waist towards his, our lips lock as I place my hand on his cheek. Whispering in my ear, "marry me," I close my eyes and pull his slightly built body closer towards my slender frame.
"I've read enough romance books to know that's not how you do it," as I wet my lips.
He looks around, "I know my apartment isn't the place you envisioned."
Getting down on one knee, he holds both of my hands. Looking up at me, his eyes go soft as he clears his throat, "Emily Cordova, will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?"
I bite my lip to keep from shedding tears as I smile big. Nodding, I chuckle "What do you think goofball...yes."
Lifting himself up off the ground, he places a ring on my finger as he brings my face toward his. Standing on my tiptoes, I kiss him passionately and breath in between, "Where did you get the ring?"
He grins, "I stole it."
Hitting his arm playfully, he winces "Ow, now I have to go to the emergency room."
I chuckle, "I think I can fix that," as I kiss him once more.Kaden's POV
Waking up in my room, I close my eyes for a few seconds and think back to that magical night on my birthday. Softly smiling to myself, Jefferson slams the door open and smiles, "I have some news..."
Moaning, I throw the pillow at him as he catches it "I'm not going away until you hear it."
Hesitating, I grumble "Not the time Jefferson. I am mourning my uncles death, so whatever news you have, it can wait."
Scratching his neck, he squeaks "It concerns your cousin."
Head jerking up, I speak "Emily? What about her?"
The squirrel lightly chuckles, "I know where she is."
"You do?"
Nodding, Jefferson speaks "She's with Mr. Gavin."
A long exhale escapes my throat as I stand to get dressed for the day. Dressing in black and blue, I adjust my cloak, "shall we go then?"
Jefferson sputters "R-Right now?""Yes, idiot. Go get my sword. It's time to end this."
Eyes narrowing, Jefferson obeys and grabs the weapon. Attaching it to my belt, I walk out the door and turn towards my assassin, "Let me say goodbye to my uncle down in the crypts. I feel like he'll appreciate that."
Jefferson bows, "Of course. Take however long you need."
Walking down the hallway, the sun shines through the windows as I smile and turn the corner. Barging through a brown door, my footsteps pound the stone staircase as I go down into the darkness. Grabbing the nearest torch, I wonder into the long hallway of leaders. Passing statues of Elena, Damaris and other past rulers, I find the statue of my uncle and place a hand on his tomb.
Muttering the words, "I'm sorry..." I set down the torch and bow my head. A few tears glisten in my eyes as I sniff "we shall be together soon, I promise."Eyes closed, my mouth whimpers, "You entrusted me with one mission. To kill the last Cordovan, but I failed you. And for that, I apologize."
Sapphire eyes blinking, I reach down into my pocket, "I have something for you. It's not that much, but it's all I have right now."
Pulling out a vile, my head glances down at the glass container. I've caught Emily many times, but I need to see her one last time. I want to see her face and how she suffers, the way my uncle suffered.
Unscrewing the container, I look dead straight at my uncle and toast to him, "To my uncle, may the Gardel line be remembered."
Raising it to my lips, I exhale "Bottoms up,"
