I woke up to someone shaking my shoulder lightly. I turned over to look at who was interrupting my slumber. Standing over me was a tall, very thin girl about my age. She had dishwater blonde hair pulled into a messy bun and soft brown eyes. She was wearing a short sleeved t-shirt and pajama pants. "Hi, I'm Shauna," she told me. "I'm your roommate. They told me to wake you up for lunch." I rubbed my eyes and sat up in bed. "I'm Molly," I replied.

"Hi, Molly. I'm glad they put someone my age in here with me. The lady who just left was a crazy, old bitch who talked to herself constantly. You don't do that do you?" she asked then narrowed her eyes, scrutinizing me.

I laughed. "No, I don't talk to myself. I'm fairly sane, considering the circumstances," I told her.

She laughed in reply. "Good. So what's your drug of choice?"

Shauna's question might have seemed nosy but it was pretty common for patients to ask each other this within moments of meeting.

"Oxycontin," I told her.

Shauna nodded her and replied "Mine's coke."

I figured as much, the way she was nervously tapping her foot and wringing her hands during our conversation.

"Well, we better get to lunch. I'm starving. I already gained like six pounds and I've only been here a week. I needed it though. Looks like you do too."

I knew I needed to eat something but I didn't know if I would be able to force anything down. It had been three hours since I took my last pill. I was sweating like a pig, was still incredibly tired even after my nap, and had to go to the bathroom - quick. I got up and ran into the bathroom before saying anything else to Shauna. I slammed the door, pulled down my pants, sat on the toilet, and turned the faucet on so Shauna wouldn't have to hear my stomach brutally emptying itself. Ugh. This was one of the most disgusting parts of withdrawal. I would rather be puking my guts out than have this constant diarrhea.

Shauna called to me from outside the bathroom door "You going through a withdrawal?"

"Ugh. Sure am," I yelled back to her.

"Don't worry about it hun. I've seen and heard it all. I'll wait for you out here," she told me.

I grunted a reply, grateful that she was understanding of this nasty situation.

When I was finally done, I flushed the toilet twice, then washed my hands and walked out of the bathroom. I felt like I needed a shower after all of that. Unfortunately I would have to make my appearance at lunch.

"Ready?" Shauna asked, getting off of her bed where she had been reading a book.

"As much as I can be," I told her.

I followed her out of our room and down the hall to the room I saw all those people sitting in earlier. There was a metal cart piled high with hospital food trays outside the door and people were standing in a single file line in front of it. Lauren was standing next to the cart handing the trays out.

"This is where we eat," Shauna told me as I got in line behind her. "We also do groups in here and use it for free time." I nodded my head, hearing her, but also noticing the people watching me. The person directly in front of Shauna turned around. He was another younger guy, dressed in all black, with tattoos covering his arms. He had a metal ring around each side of his bottom lip, his hair was dyed bright blue and styled into a faux hawk. He looked me up and down before asking "So are you the new girl?"

"Yeah," I replied, nodding my head.

"What's your drug of choice? he inquired haughtily. He had a cocky manner about him.
